The Iowa APT held its fourth event of the season Sunday May 16th at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake in Moravia IA. After a wet and chilly start the rain held off just long enough for the field to complete their round in just over 4 ½ hours. Even with the low turnout of 17 players, each division came down to the wire, resulting in some close finishes and some great scores. We managed to avoid any playoffs, however, divisions 2 and 3 came down to the final hole. Here are the division winners:
Tad Luebbehusen (79) Lead the way for division 1 over APT newcomer Nate Goddard (84). With only a 1 stroke lead at the turn, Luebbehusen’s strong finish allowed him to pull away for his first victory with the APT. Luebbehusen also collected 1 division skin and one super skin to earn $198.00 on the day.
Division 2 consisted of four players battling it out down to the final hole. Brian Vance (80) prevailed with a two-stroke victory over Daryl Wolff (82), Charlie Estabrook (82), and Dale Morrison (82). Vance led the way at the turn with a one stroke lead and was able to hold steady to complete his two-stroke victory. The steady play from Vance helped him win two division skins and one super skin for a total of $212 in earnings for the day.
Division 3 winner Darin Smith (89) and second place finisher Paul Schmitz (90) stepped up to the 18th tee tied at +15. Smith managed to hold off Schmitz and pick up his first APT victory by one-stroke. Smith was able to pick up one division skin to earn $166 on the day.
Division 4 winner Nathan Simler (86) picked up his fourth victory of the 2021 season. Simler capped off another dominating performance, finishing with a five-stroke victory over Roger Bales (91). Simler’s strong showing earned him two division skins and one super skin for a total of $214 on the day.
Division 5 winner Mitchell Gustin (89) put up his best APT performance of the season with an amazing 18-stroke victory over second place finisher David “Superdave” Oetken (107). Gustin could not be stopped on his way to collecting his second APT victory this season. Gustin’s was able to pick up one division skin with his fantastic round, giving him a total earning of $166 for the day.
