On a colder, windier day at Virtues Golf Club we had 41 golfers come out to play an extremely challenging Virtues Golf Club. The golf course played very long with cold, wet conditions which led to higher scores across the field. There were however several standouts from each division that were able to mentally stay in the round and post very good scores for the conditions.
In Division 2 Chris Wikle had an extremely strong a steady round with 7 bogeys and 11 pars. On a day with a lot of volatility Chris was able to stay steady and hang on to shoot 41 on the back and a winning total of 79. Chris also took home Senior Net with an adjusted score of 77. Matthew Beeman who was around the lead all day shot an 80 for second place which was highlighted by two close shots on 12 and 14 (both par 3s) which led to closest to the pin honors on both holes. Austin Decot who led the division with 3 birdies posted an 82 for 3rd place in his first tournament of the season.
In Division 3 Steve Phillips was impressive all day and posted his second win of the season with a score of 78. Steve was consistent all day with 7 bogeys and an impressive birdie on 9 which is a downhill par 3 all over water. Srikanth Vadlamudi had another great round in just his second tournament and posted 86 to come in 2nd. His birdie on 16 was the highlight of his round and earned him division and super skins. Curtis Vanderkooi shot 88 to come in 3rd.
In Division 4 Sean Graham came out strong with a 43 on the front 9 and hung on to the lead on the back parring an extremely difficult 18th hole to shoot 89 for a one-shot victory. Zachariah Hlad stayed near the top of the leaderboard most of the day also opening with 43 and ended up 1 back with 90. Jessica Bookwalter shot 92 for 3rd place in her first event with the Amateur Players Tour.
In Division 5 Nadine LaRoche parred 3 of the 4 par 3’s and even won a closest to the pin on #9. She was consistent throughout the day shooting 50 on the front and 50 on the back for a winning score of 100. This was her first individual win with the Amateur Players Tour. Steve Smith fought hard on the back 9 to give Nadine a run for the Div 5 win and came home in 49 to post 102 for 2nd place. Dalton Devine was 3 back of Steve and finished in 3rd place.
