In a day that featured 4 separate weather delays, and the event having to be shortened to only 9 holes, winners were crowned on Sunday at Stonewall Resort on the Arnold Palmer Signature Course. The day started out perfectly with sunshine and a nice breeze, but mother nature had other plans when the lead group got to hole 4. After a short 15 minute delay, play was resumed for 1 hole, before the skies opened up with a quick powerful downpour.
After a 5 minute delay, play resumed for another hole, before the horn sounded for lightening and the skies opened up. After a near 30 minute delay and speaking with the course superintendent, it was decided to resume play, as there was an opening in the weather. The sun came out and it looked like the round would be completed, but it was not to be as a final storm came through with lightening, thunder, and rain that would make Noah gather the animals and the tournament committee called a halt to the event after 9 holes.
Jerod Ewing won division 1 by 4 shots over Jordan Duncan, finishing his day with a birdie on #9.
In the battle of the Brandon’s, Thompson defeated Preece by 9, on the back of 2 birdies on the front 9 and a near ace on #2, that would’ve been worth $2,500!
Matt Robinson won division 3 unopposed.
Justin Keaton defeated Matt McGee by 1. Matt was making his debut in Division 4 this week and could be a player in the points race as the season progresses with his strong play on a very tough course.
Marshall Kiser won a scorecard playoff against Jason Massie to take division 5. Marshall also won the senior net game as he was unopposed.
Thanks to everyone who played. We are sorry that mother nature has no regard for golfers and tournaments, but she kind of does what she wants, when she wants. Our next event is Saturday June 19th at Grandview Country Club, followed by a stop on one of the top 3 courses in the state, at Stone Haven @ Glade Springs.
