The morning offered brisk temperatures, 18-20mph winds and a spectacular venue at White Manor Country Club. The field was very much up for the challenge as players posted some truly superlative rounds into a wind that demanded precision ball striking.
Leading the way in Division 1 was Bobby Booth who posted the best round of the day with a 74(38-36). The first two holes played the hardest across the board for the event. Bob opened with a solid Par on Hole #1 before getting bit on Hole #2 with a double bogey which would be his only misstep of the day. He bounced back with a Par on the 244 yard Par 3 3rd and never let go of the lead again. He played his last 11 holes in -1 to post his first victory of the season.
In a battle all day in D2, David Ripa(41-39-80) was able to pull away for a two stroke victory over Shane Martin(39-43-82) who posted a great opening nine 39. After a solid Par on Hole #1, Ripa also got the business from hole #2 and posted a double bogey; however, he bounced back on #4 with birdie and would go on to post a great stretch run 39 on the back to claim the win.
Division 3 had a big competitive field but then Brad Garrett(40-38-78) showed up and played an outstanding round of golf that left them all eating dust. Things may not have been looking good after opening with a triple bogey 7 but Garrett put the wheel to the grindstone and posted a solid 40 opening nine to put him into a three way tie with Josh Numbers(40-44-84)and Kevin Martyn(40-46-86). Brad put his foot on the gas and dropped a stellar 38 on the back to post an easy six stroke victory. Numbers claimed second and Martyn third.
Division 4 was a tight race with four players within two strokes of the winner, John Eastlack(43-43-86) who played steady, solid golf all day long with matching 43's. It was an excellent round in some tough scoring conditions. Josh Henry and Ray Fortino tied for second, only one stroke back at the finish.
Division 5 provided us with our first on course playoff between David Garrett(51-43-94) and Brian Bulicki(51-43-94). Bulicki made a clutch 12 foot putt on #18 to tie for the lead and force a playoff. The duo tee'd off on # 18 and Garrett, who posted an excellent 43 on the back nine, made quick work of Bulicki and took the win. The Garrett family went home with their bags full!
Congratulations to all our winners! You really played some terrific golf at White Manor CC.
