Houston APT tour held its second tournament of the season at Cypress Lakes GC on March 11th. Temperatures were in the comfortable range but players had to battle an unusually windy day out on the links. The course was rolling out in the fairways and some players were able to drive a few par 4’s with the wind! The greens were in good condition and rolled nicely, though the wind had to be factored thus making reads and putting more challenging.
Division 1 faced their challenges playing from the tips with a course length over 7,000 yards in windy conditions. Lucky Cruz (77) was a run-away winner posting the lowest score of the tournament. Joey Savoy (89) finished second and third place went to Brady Langston (92).
Division 2 was a tightly contested race! New Houston APT member Bill Langston (79) and Red River member Traylor Sells (79) came into the clubhouse tied for first. Both players elected a scorecard playoff, with each shooting 39 on the front and 40 on the back, it came down to the last 6 holes and Bill Langston edged out 1st place by a stroke on the last six. Robbie Guinn (80) third place tried to close the gap on the back nine with a 39 but fell one shot short of the leaders.
Division 3 came down to the wire as the lead went back and forth in the last four holes. A timely birdie on 17 helped Pat Ryan (82) secure 1st place. Shan Schaefer (84) carded 8 pars on the day for a solid round and second place finish. New Houston APT member RJ Lang (85) finished in third.
Division 4 had a core group of Houston APT veterans battling it out again in this tournament. Tony Rose (82) had a steady day logging a tournament leading 11 pars! Second place finishers Alvin Miles (84) and George Smith (84) tried their best to give Tony a run with each player logging three birdies on their cards.
Division 5 player Rob Vespa (93) secured his first win of the season by three shots over Denis Corleto (96) who finished second. Carolina Ackerman (97) and new Houston APT member Dustin Waller (97) finished in a tie for third.
The Senior Net Division was also a tightly contested race. Tony Rose took home 1st place at -1. Pat Ryan and Shan Schaefer tied for second at Even.
