October weather is hit or miss, but this weekend, we definitely hit. Great weather and a course about as pure as it ever has been made for a great day on the course. That’s not to say scoring was easy…with greens extremely fast and tucked pin locations, you had to be putting from the right places to have any chance of making them. Some did that really well, others watched putts roll 40ft away and off the green.
Kory Glasgow, Dave Kearney, and Jacob Bruhn were all in the fight after the front 9, with Kory having a slim lead over the other two. But the tough back 9 proved to be a challenge for all players, and Spencer Morse found his way back in the battle as well. Spencer and Kory found themselves in a playoff, and it only took one hole to decide a winner – Kory Glasgow back on top again.
Division 2 was a battle on the front 9 between Bill Campbell and Verl Seger. Seger was down by 1 stroke but the difficult back 9 to come, anything could happen. Campbell just proved to be much to take down, shooting an impressive 2 over back 9 to take a 4 stroke victory over Seger.
Division 3 had three players separate themselves from the field on the front 9, with Devin Abb leading the way at 2 over par and Alex Lederer and James Rowan 1 back at 3 over par. But only one of those three would continue that play on the back 9. Alex Lederer littered the course with birdies today, and was able to match his front nine 3 over par and finish with a 78, besting Devin by 3 strokes.
Casey Parks found himself in the lead by one after an impressive 4 over par front 9, with Roy Thavaraj hot on his heals. But the back 9, Roy kept things steady with a birdie on 11, and Casey soon found himself in a battle for second with Scott Miller, while Roy was able to secure his first win on the APT with a very impressive 10 over par 82. Miller and Parks tied for 2nd two strokes back.
Ethan Smith looked like he had D5 wrapped up after 15 holes. Cliff Austin II was pushing him on the front 9, but Ethan built a 4 stroke lead after 15 holes. Holes 16-18 proved to be a challenge for both players, but Austin was able to get those strokes back and take the win over Smith by 1 shot, shooting an 89. That’s back to back events he’s broke 90, with the first time coming a week prior at Winterstone.
We’re off for the winter, but make sure to head south to keep the game sharp! We’ve got some awesome majors coming up in Atlanta, Florida and Myrtle Beach!
