Tournament Champions
The Camarillo Cup @ Sterling Hills
Results and Recap
Perfect weather for golf in August! 77 degrees, light breeze and sunny skies as we played our last regular season event of 2024 on the SoCal Tour.
We had some course issues as a sewer line caused the par 4 #12 to become a par 3 and turned the course into a par 70. The greens were rolling fast and true and the guys were treated to a complimentary lunch package as part of the round!
We had our division 4 player of the year leader shoot his best round ever on the APT with a 79, way to go Marty. Division 2 Eagle Glen winner Duke Perezedenti was back but now in division 1. We also had 2 players go back to back wins, let’s see who it was?
Division 1: We had a nice field of 8 D1 players. Some of our regulars were not in the field and we had 3 guests who were playing. Logan Cook, (Camarillo, CA) local Camarillo resident was off to a great start at -1 through 6 holes. Vincent McCleod and Cole Lum (Moorepark, CA), returning members were also playing well, along with past winner Eloy Rodriguez (Riverside, CA). As they made the turn to the back nine Eloy made back to back birdies to move to the lead. Vincent McCleod (Fullerton, CA), Logan Cook, and Cole Lum were battling for second as they were all tied coming down the stretch. Logan hung on with a +7 round to take second place and Eloy shot a great round of 70 for the win and puts him in strong position going into the chapter finals to be in the top 3 for player of the year as he currently is second.
Division 2: A decent sized field in division 2 but 2 players on the waiting list in division 2 missed out as they tried to enter late and the course had no more tee spots open. Angel Sotelo (Downey, CA) was playing strong again with a -1 on the front nine. Kyle Cardoza (Anaheim, CA) started out rough but rallied hard on the back nine to get into contention. Felix Monjez (Tracy, CA) NorCal chapter was also playing well and ended with a +6 77 for third place. Kyle posted his 74 +3 and was the leader in the clubhouse and Angel was struggling to finish with a double bogey, and bogey, but pulled out a par on 18, to finish at 72 +2 and take the win.
Division 3: John Dwyer III (Ventura, CA) leading points player in Division 3, was playing well and Scott Chalayan Cessna (Anaheim, CA) was also out strong with a 40 on the front nine. Eagle Glen winner Andrews Viramontes (Murrieta, CA) was back and trying to go back to back. JP Gooderham (Santa Monica, CA) tour member but doesn’t get to play regularly was keeping pace with the leaders. John Dwyer shot a 38 on the front nine but made a couple double bogeys on the back that ruined his chances. Andres struggled a bit on the front nine with a 41 and +6, but proceeded to shoot even par with 9 straight par’s to finish strong and shoot another 70’s round of 77 and going back to back on tour. Scott C. Cessna was also in the mix and finished just one shot back with a 78. The player of the year race in division 3 will all come down to the chapter finals! John Dwyer III, Andres Viramontes, Scott C. Cessna, Ryan Maramis, and Ryan Encinas, depending on how they all play could all still win with 2.5x the points on the line.
Division 4: Kurt Odegard (Anaheim Hills, CA) Marty Rinehart (Upland, CA), Saul Armendiraz (Granada Hills, CA), and Jacob Maramis, (Corona, CA) were all grouped together in Division 4. They all battled all day, but Marty was playing the round of his life! He ended up shooting a 79 and took the first-place trophy and increased his lead for Player of the Year. Kurt finished second and Jacob third to bring it to the chapter finals to see if anyone can pass up Marty with the 2.5x the points on the line.
Division 5: We had a good group of 8 guys playing in division 5 with. Kirk Olmos (Moreno Valley, CA) Tommy Weatherby (Sun City, CA) and Joshua Isensee (Huntington Beach, CA) in the field at battling hard. Kirk was struggling on the front nine and Joshua was playing well and in the lead. Division 5 changes drastically as the round continues and suddenly Tommy was on the leaderboard and up 3 shots. Unfortunately, he made some putting tap in errors, and it cost him. Now Kirk Olmos had a 3 shot lead with only 18 left to play. Congrats to Kirk, wait hit the brakes, Kirk took a triple on 18 and Tommy made par forcing a playoff! The drama of division 5 is crazy! Playoff Hole 1 Tommy pulled out the victory for his back to back wins and making the chapter finals a race for player of the year in Division 5.
Senior Net contest: Marty Rinehart (Upland, CA), with his round of 79 easily took Senior net with a 64 net score! We had a four way tie for fourth all shooting +2, were John Dwyer, John Ballew, Ryan Encinas, and Thomas Crowder.
Open Net Contest: Kyle Cardoza (Anaheim, CA) and Andres Viramontes (Murrieta, CA) with the nice rounds they shot finished 1st and 2nd at -4 and -3 in Open Net.
Congratulations to all of our winners!
