Tournament Champions
On Sunday July 14th, the St. Louis chapter of the APT converged on The Falls Golf Club in O’Fallon, MO on one of the hottest days of the summer. The course was in good condition, and scoring conditions were favorable as the St. Louis chapter got the 2nd half of the season into full swing. Players were vying to move up spots in the Autohaus BMW St. Louis Player of the Year race standings, as races are tightening and players are trying to earn automatic invitations to the Founders Cup vs. Nashville at the end of the season.
In Division 1, John Todd continued his solid play this season as he ran away from the field late, shooting a 2-under par 69 to finish with a 3-shot victory over Michael Clark (72). Todd took advantage of the back nine, birdieing three of his last 6 holes on the way to securing the victory. Ed McDugle (Memphis) made the trip up to St. Louis, finishing in solo 3rd with a solid effort of 3-over par 74, while Michael Flynn continued his solid season in a tie for 4th with Greg Lewis with rounds of 76. John Todd won the senior division, with Michael Clark finishing in 2nd place.
In Division 2, 2023 North American Champion Darin Mongler returned to form with a hot-start front nine that would prove to be too much to overcome as he cruised to a one-shot victory with a 1-over par 72. James Sills birdied 2 of the last 5 to make it close, but fell just one shot off the pace with an impressive 73. Joe Blandina, Tim Mayer and Tom Estopare finished in a 3-way tie for 3rd place with rounds of 74, while Eri Schaetty has been showing consistency over the last few events with a solid 6th place finish with 75. On the senior side, Darin Mongler bested Brad Garrett and Bill Stuart by 6 shots, with both players finishing with rounds of 78.
In Division 3, Dauffus Jackson returned to the winners circle for the second time this season, shooting a impressive 77 to earn a one-shot victory over Jason Stone and Simay Souvannarath, who finished just one shot off the pace with rounds of 78. Raj Pandey and Chris Price finished in a tied for 4th with rounds of 79, as the top 5 was separated by just 2 strokes. On the senior side, 18 holes would not be enough to decide the champion as Simay Souvannarath and Jason Stone finished regulation tied at 78. After bogey’s on the first playoff hole, Stone made a difficult par on the 2nd playoff hole to earn the victory.
In Division 4, Buddy Robinson, one of the current 2024 GlobalGolf.com National Player of the Year contenders travelled in from Dallas/Fort Worth to test his skills against St. Louis players. Robinson played a solid round, shooting an 83 to earn a one-shot victory over Dave Draucker, who finished in solo 2nd with an 84. 3rd place went to AJ Jangi, who shot an 87 while Dee Eaton and Michael Wulf tied for 4th with rounds of 88. On the senior side, Dave Draucker returned to the winners circle, beating AJ Jangi and Les Mays by 3 shots.
In Division 5, Tracy Behrle started out hot, making a birdie on the par-3 4th hole en route to shooting a 41 on the front nine to build a sizable lead. She finished with a smooth 86, earning the victory after besting Chris Brockmeyer by one-stroke. Jim Nichols and Pat Callihan shot rounds of 88 to finish in a tie for 3rd place. The top 5 was rounded out by Selena Droce and Chad Johnson who both shot 89 to finish just 3 shots off of the pace. On the senior side, Chris Brockmeyer returned to the Autohaus BMW Winners Circle, after posting an 87 to beat Jim Nichols and Pat Callihan by one stroke.
