    2025 Elevated Summer Classic Recap

Atkins Golf Club – Urbana, IL

    Sunday, July 20, 2025

The 2025 Elevated Summer Classic at Atkins Golf Club delivered a championship-caliber test, a highly competitive field, and another major shake-up in the Player of the Year standings as the APT Central Illinois Chapter concluded its final elevated event of the season. Despite intermittent rain, variable winds, and shifting conditions, the course held up beautifully, showcasing nearly flawless greens and receptive fairways. 64 players teed it up across five divisions and a Senior Net competition. Players battled both the elements and one another, chasing double points and a boosted payout pool in one of the most anticipated events of the summer.

    Division Highlights

Division 1 – Josh Anderson (Savoy, IL)

Anderson came out firing with a sizzling -4 (32) on the front nine, carding six birdies to separate himself from the field early. The win marks a critical step for the Savoy local looking to lock in the Division 1 Player of the Year race as reigning Champion from 2024.

Division 2 – Michael Lingenfelter (Decatur, IL)

Lingenfelter captured a rare double victory, earning titles in both Division 2 and Senior Net. An even-par front nine gave him the edge, and he never looked back. Newcomer Ty Jones briefly held the clubhouse lead at +4 before Lingenfelter closed strong. Darcy Boyles also impressed with four birdies on the day, but it was Lingenfelter who left Urbana with two trophies and key points down the stretch.

Division 3 – Anthony Orza (Pekin, IL)

Orza’s round featured solid ball striking and two timely birdies, including an even-par front that helped him take control. The competition was tight, but Orza’s ability to navigate the softer conditions gave him the edge over a competitive field.

Division 4 – Don McMahon (Decatur, IL)

McMahon relied on steady play and course management to outlast the field. With several players in contention late, McMahon’s consistency on the back nine proved decisive as he earned a crucial win in the Player of the Year race.

Division 5 – Myron Schroeder (Downs, IL)

After trailing early behind Keith Schumacher, Schroeder mounted a disciplined comeback, making key pars and avoiding mistakes. His resilience earned him a hard-fought Division 5 win on a course that demanded precision.

    Senior Net – Michael Lingenfelter

Lingenfelter’s form was undeniable. In addition to his Division 2 title, he cruised to a clear Senior Net win. Mitch Myers and Don McMahon tied for second behind the Decatur standout.

Closest to the Pin – John Westfall

Westfall stuffed one to 8 feet 3 inches, besting the field to take home Closest to the Pin honors.

Thank you to all players who braved the shifting weather and rising stakes. With only a few regular season events left, the road to the Crossroads Cup is narrowing — and every shot matters.

Next Stop: The Battle on the Border at Turtle Run

Danville, IL – Sunday, July 27

This event will serve as a preview for this fall’s Crossroads Cup finale, which will also be contested at Turtle Run.

    See you at the border.
