Tournament Champions
The Amateur Players returned in 2025 to the Falls Golf Club on Sunday, July 13th. Storms were lurking all day, but players lucked out with near perfect conditions as the rain would hold off and produce some great scores. Autohaus BMW and MINI of St. Louis were on hand showing off some beautiful luxury vehicles – and points are starting to become ever-so-valuable in the Autohaus BMW Player of the Year races.
In Division 1, Ryan Eckelcamp got off to a hot-start and would be 5-under coming into 18, before finding some trouble on the home stretch. A costly double would cause him to end up in a playoff with Andrew Rottschalk, the sophomore at University of Evansville making his APT tour debut who finished with an impressive 3-under 68. On the first playoff hole, Eckelcamp seemed to be in control with a 15-foot birdie putt with Rottschalk missing the green, but a masterful chip found the bottom of the cup forcing Eckelcamp to answer. The birdie putt fell just short, giving Rottschalk his first career APT victory. Michael Flynn would finish in solo 3rd just one-shot off of the pace at 2-under 69. On the senior side, John Todd earned the victory with a 5-over par 76.
In Division 2, Bryan Thomas broke through for his first win on the APT, firing a 3-over par 74 to beat a crowded field of contenders. Thomas birdied 3 of the last 4 holes, including birdies on 17 and 18 to earn a one-shot victory. Dave Adams, Lance Davidson, Mike Coyne, Taylor Young, and Mark Lamoureux each tied for 2nd just one-shot back with rounds of 75. On the senior side, Lamoureux, Davidson and Adams would need extra holes to decide a winner, and the playoff would commence on the 1st hole. Dave Adams stepped up and made birdie to claim his trip to victory lane and earn the senior title.
In Division 3, Mike Paubel broke through with his career best round, a 76 to earn a two-shot victory and valuable points in the Autohaus BMW Player of the Year race. Donald Chase finished in solo 2nd with a round of 78, while Jeff Malone continues to show steady improvement with a solo 3rd place finish with a 79. 4th place would go to Brian Chilton, Jason Stone, and Jeff Morgan who each finished with rounds of 80 to round out the top-5. On the senior side, another playoff would be necessary as Brian Chilton, Jason Stone and Jeff Morgan each would be tied with rounds of 80. Chilton stepped up and under pressure birdied the par-4 1st hole to secure the win.
In Division 4, Michael Wulf entered the day with his previous low in 2 years of playing on the APT as an 88, but that wouldn’t stop him from having a day. A career best 77 saw him earn a 6-shot win over William Heritage, who finished in solo 2nd with an 83. Dave Draucker, Les Mays, and Darrel Ervin each finished in a tie for 3rd with rounds of 84. On the senior side – more playoffs were needed as Draucker, Ervin, and Mays each finished tied at the top of the leaderboard. Draucker would need only a bogey on the par-4 1st hole to secure the victory and take down the senior title.
In Division 5, Arthur Miller Jr. made the trip from Memphis to the Falls, and made the most of the trip by firing an 88 to earn a one-shot victory over Esther Flora and Byron Whitlock, who finished in a tie for 3nd at 89. Kenneth Finkbeiner, Mark Smith, and Kevin Brown each finished just off of the pace with rounds of 90. On the senior side, another playoff would commence as Esther Flora and Byron Whitlock would finish tied at 89. On the first playoff hole, Flora would only need a 6 to earn the victory and a return to the Autohaus BMW Winners Circle.
In the Net competition, scores would be low across the board, as players took advantage of light winds, a break from the summer heat, and perfect scoring conditions. Bryan Thomas would turn in his career best into a net victory, finishing at 7-under par 64. 2nd place belonged to Mike Paubel with a 6-under 65, while Mark Lamoureux, Steve Tripi, and Arthur Miller Jr. finished in 3rd place at 5-under par 66.
From here, the tour moves to WingHaven Country Club before a weekend off for The Double Down at French Lick resort. August will be a busy month for the St. Louis chapter, starting with an anticipated visit to Dalhousie Golf Club on Monday, August 4th.
