2025 APT Tulsa Chapter Finals Recap – Shangri-La Resort & Golf Club

The 2025 APT Tulsa Chapter season concluded this past weekend at Shangri-La Resort and Golf Club on Monkey Island at Grand Lake in Afton, Oklahoma, with the APT Local Chapter Finals. The two-day championship showcased 51 players and awarded over $8,200 in cash and prizes. A Finals record 19 different players collected winnings, while seven champions hoisted trophies. More importantly, six coveted Player of the Year (POY) awards were decided across five divisions and Senior Net, making for a weekend packed with drama and excitement.

The weather was perfect for championship golf, and the players delivered.

    Division 1

Two-time reigning POY and points leader Andy Proctor made it clear early that if anyone wanted the crown, they’d have to take it from him. An opening-round even-par 72 on the Heritage-Legends course gave him a four-shot cushion over challenger Josh Linn

Sunday’s final round turned into a duel. Proctor stumbled early, and Linn surged to pull even by the turn. The two traded blows down the stretch, arriving tied with two to play. A bogey on 17 left Linn trailing, and Proctor calmly parred the 18th. Linn’s 20-foot birdie attempt to force a playoff slid just left, giving Proctor his third consecutive Division 1 Player of the Year title

Meanwhile, Anthony Schreirer (Joplin) posted the low round of the event with a 1-under 71, vaulting into third.

    Division 2

No one in Division 2 stayed hotter through the summer than James Borzone, and he saved his best for the Finals. After a strong opening-round 74, Borzone entered Sunday with a five-shot lead and never looked back. A steady second round carried him to a six-shot victory over Dennis Joyce (Fort Smith), who closed with the division’s best round of the day (76).

David Greenfield (Fort Smith), who began Sunday in second, slipped to third after an 82. Borzone’s dominant win vaulted him past absent points leader Jeremy Harbaugh to claim his first POY title

    Division 3

Division 3 came down to the wire. Garye Myers (Tulsa) and Jeffrey Mann (Bentonville, AR) were deadlocked as they stood on the 18th green. Myers cozied a birdie attempt to tap-in range for par, while Mann’s par putt stopped heartbreakingly short. The narrow victory gave Myers both the tournament title and his first Player of the Year award

Michael Foster (Catoosa) made a late charge with the low round of the day (83) but came up just one stroke short.

    Division 4

The Division 4 race was equally tense. Yul Eslinger entered the Finals leading the POY race but struggled over two days, leaving the door open for Dewitt Jennings. Jennings seemed poised to snatch the title after five steady pars on the back nine Sunday, but costly mistakes—two doubles and two bogeys over the final four holes—ultimately ended his run. Eslinger’s season-long consistency held up, and he captured the POY title by just 8 points

The tournament itself belonged to Mike Shelton, who opened with a brilliant 79 to seize a five-shot lead. Despite a charge from Marvin Christie, who cut the deficit to two shots early Sunday, Shelton steadied the ship and held on for a three-shot victory. Rodney Woodard (OKC Chapter) closed with the division’s best round but finished four strokes back.

    Division 5

Division 5 delivered the weekend’s “feel-good” story. Matt Salvo (Fayetteville, AR) had endured five runner-up finishes this season, often seeing victory slip away at the last moment. At the Finals, his persistence finally paid off.

Salvo and Tim Smith (Pea Ridge) matched opening 90s to set up a Sunday showdown. Smith faltered with a double-bogey start, while Salvo stayed steady, seizing both his first career APT win and the Player of the Year title

It wasn’t easy, though—Steve Rehbock stormed back late, gaining five shots over the final four holes to finish just one back. Salvo exhaled in relief as his final putt dropped, finally breaking through after a season of near-misses.
