Recap: The Wind Chill Open at Wood Wind Golf Club
The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour (APT) faced challenging conditions at the Wind Chill Open at Wood Wind Golf Club in Westfield, as competitors were greeted by winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour and intermittent rain. To add to the difficulty, players were required to walk the course with a “cart path only” rule in effect, making for a truly grueling day on the links. Despite the tough weather, several players rose to the occasion and emerged victorious across the event’s various divisions.
In Division 1, Blake Claycomb triumphed in a thrilling playoff against George Hoskins Jr. After both players posted solid rounds of 74, it came down to a dramatic first playoff hole, where Blake sealed the win with a clutch performance.
Division 2 saw Don Dawson continue his strong play with an 85, narrowly holding off James Gineris and Randy Burton, both of whom finished with 87s. Dawson’s steady round was enough to secure the victory despite the tight competition.
Division 3 was another tight race, but Rex Meyer claimed the win with an 85. Meyer kept his composure to hold off Ben Minnich, who posted a solid 87.
In Division 4, newcomer Guy Marlow impressed in his APT debut, shooting an impressive 81 to claim the win. Marlow finished ahead of Adam Hardisty, who shot an 83, to secure the title.
The Division 5 battle was led by the defending champion Zach Jackson, who continued his dominant form with a 94 to clinch the trophy. Tom Heiser put up a strong fight, finishing second with a 96, but it was the defending champion’s day once again.
The Open Net division saw an outstanding performance from David Beshears, who posted a one-over-par score of 72 to take home the win. Meanwhile, in Senior Net, Rex Meyer continued his successful outing, picking up his second trophy of the day with another impressive victory.
Despite the fierce winds and rainy conditions, the competitors showed resilience making the Wind Chill Open an unforgettable event.
