The Charleston Amatuer Players Tour 2026 season came to a close on Saturday, as competitors traveled to Manning, SC for the tour’s Local Finals at Wyboo Golf Club.

Wyboo offers a scenic Lowcountry setting as it winds through Deercreek Plantation, providing golfers with a layout that blends generous landing areas with a demanding approach to the greens.

Designed by Tom Jackson, Wyboo opened in 1999 and has established itself as a respected public course in South Carolina. Its reputation received an early boost in 2003, when The State newspaper in Columbia selected it as one of the state’s Top 10 public golf courses.

While players will find plenty of room to work with off the tee, the course becomes more challenging closer to the hole. Bunkers and hazards are positioned around the greens, placing an emphasis on accurate iron play and rewarding golfers who can keep their approach shots under control.

The Charleston Amatuer Players Tour travels the Lowcountry of South Carolina, offering golfers of all skill levels a chance to compete in one of five divisions. The tour also features Mid-Am and Senior net divisions, along with an optional cash skins game each week.

With Saturday’s tournament serving as the local finale for the tour’s 2026 schedule, the Players of the Year were also determined following the event.

Chase Sturkie of Lexington was named Division 1 Player of the Year, while Gaffney’s AJ Lee earned Division 2 honors. Myron Samuels of Columbia took the Division 3 title, Kenneth Johnson of Manning claimed Division 4 and Brendan Daniels of Summerville finished atop Division 5. Justin Greider of Summerville was named Mid-Am Net Player of the Year, while Randy Poplin of Mount Pleasant earned Senior Net Player of the Year honors.

Here’s a breakdown of the results from Saturday’s tournament by division:

Division 1 – Extra golf was needed in Division 1 on Saturday as Chase Sturkie and Darryl Phelps found themselves tied with rounds of 73. In the playoff, it was Sturkie who prevailed, scoring the victory in the final event of the season while also capturing Player of the Year honors.

Sturkie shot one-over par on the opening nine, birding the par-four third hole to settle into his round. Sturkie kept his solid round going on the back, birding the par-five 11th hole to shoot even-par on the closing stretch.

Phelps led after the front nine, shooting even-par with a birdie on the par-four opening hole. He added a final birdie on the par-five 15th hole to shoot one-over par on the back nine.

Phil Pfeiffer and Maxwell Holcombe tied for third place with rounds of 74, followed by Carlton Snow in fifth place with a round of 74.

Division 2 – Chuck Bell was the class of the field in Division 2, firing an even-par round of 72 to win by a single stroke. Bell made four birdies on the front nine, including three in a four-hole stretch to close the opening side with a score of two-under par, 34. Bell added a final birdie on the par-five 16th hole, proving to be the difference in his one stroke victory.

Allen Hall was close behind in second place, posting a round of 73. Hall attempted to make a back nine charge, birding the 15th and 16th holes to shoot one-under par, 35, on the closing stretch.

Grady “Chip” Brown came home in third place with a round of 77, highlighted by a string of eight straight pars to open the day. Weston Brown and Steve Smyth tied for fourth place with rounds of 79 to round out the top five.

Division 3 – Eighteen holes of golf proved not to be enough to determine a winner in Division 3, as Branden Baker and Pat Ryan tied with rounds of 77. When the dust settled in the playoff, it was Baker who emerged victorious.

Baker got off to a solid start on the front nine, making seven pars. However, after a difficult stretch to begin the back nine, Baker settled back in with four pars and a birdie to finish his round and make the playoff.

Ryan also played the front nine in two-over par, and grabbed the lead momentarily with a birdie on the par-four 12th hole as he shot 38 on the closing nine. Justin Greider finished third with a round of 79. Greider’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-five fifth hole.

Jeff Price finished fourth, followed by Misael Moreno in fifth place as the two carded rounds of 81 and 84, respectively.

Division 4 – Nine golfers finished within four strokes of the eventual winner in Division 4, as it was Rick Battaglia who outlasted Brian Gregor in a playoff after both players carded rounds of 84.

Battaglia finished the round with nine pars, and took advantage of the par-four 10th hole where he made birdie. Gregor finished runner-up following the playoff. Gregor saved his best golf for the back nine, making five pars and four bogeys to shoot four-over par, 40.

Randy Poplin finished third with a round of 85. Poplin overcame a difficult front nine to shoot four-over par on the back nine. Andy Dumont and Matthew Nemes rounded out the top five in the division in a tie for fourth place with rounds of 86.

Division 5 – Brendan Daniels made four pars in his first seven holes, paving the way to a round of 92 and the victory in Division 5. Daniels settled into his round early, making four pars in a five-hole stretch after a difficult opening hole. Daniels added three more pars on the back nine to clear the field by seven strokes.

Randy Cox finished runner-up with a round of 99. Cox made two pars on the round, the first of which came on the par-five fifth hole. Patrick Heinl and Matthew Cooke rounded out the division in third and fourth place with rounds of 102 and 109, respectively.

Mid-Am (Net) – Allen Hall clinched the top spot in the Mid-Am net division on Saturday with a stellar net round of five-under par, 67. Hall made three birdies on the front nine before adding two more birdies and an eagle on the back nine. Hall finished with a round of four-under par, 32, on the closing stretch.

Justin Greider finished second, two strokes behind, with a round of three-under par, 69. Greider played his best golf on the front nine, making two birdies and a net eagle to shoot three-under par, 33.

Branden Baker finished third with a one-under par round of 71, followed by a tie for fourth place including Chase Sturkie and Matthew Nemes as both players carded rounds of 75.

Senior (Net) – Darryl Phelps and Brian Gregor shared the honors in the Senior net division, as both players posted rounds of one-under par, 71. Phelps made three birdies on the round, and played his first 15 holes of the day in three-under par. Gregor finished with four bridies and an eagle, making three birdies on the back nine to shoot two-under par on the side.

Randy Poplin and Rick Battaglia finished tied for third place with rounds of 73. Poplin played his best golf on the back nine, making three birdies to card a round of two-under par, 34. Battaglia made five birdies on the front and followed it with a net eagle on the par-four 10th hole.

Jeff Price and Tommy Stokes rounded out the top five in the division in a tie for fifth place with rounds of 74.
