First-Time Winners Highlight Strong Day at Central Illinois APT Event
The Amateur Players Tour Central Illinois Chapter returned to action this past weekend, with players competing across five divisions, Mid-Am Net, and Senior Net contests. By the end of the day, a total of $6,665had been paid out, several players strengthened their position in the Player of the Year race, and two competitors celebrated milestone victories.
The day featured a mix of established winners and breakthrough performances, highlighted by Jim Brown’s first win of the 2026 season and Thomas Pongracz’s first career APT victory.
Division 1
Division 1 produced one of the tightest races of the day, with only two strokes separating the top three finishers.
Josh Anderson of Sidney emerged victorious after posting a round of 76 (+4). Anderson’s round was built on consistency, recording 13 pars and two birdies while playing the back nine in even par. That steady finish proved to be the difference as he held off a late challenge from Jason Anglin.
Anglin finished runner-up at 77 (+5) after carding four birdies, the most in the division. Scott Prosser remained in contention throughout the day and claimed third place with a 78 (+6).
Josh Kilcullen finished fourth at 82 (+10), followed by Kameron Wilson at 87 (+15) and Wesley Dazey at 95 (+23).
Division 2
Mitch Myers continued to show why he remains one of the toughest players in Division 2, posting a strong round of 73 (+1) to earn a four-shot victory.
Myers was the only player in the division to finish within a few shots of par and never allowed the field to get within striking distance during the closing stretch.
Trenton Matthews claimed second place with a 77 (+5), while Dan Punkay finished third after carding a 78 (+6).
The battle for fourth place ended in a four-way tie, with Noah Daly, Adam Dean, Erik Moore, and Michael Konuch all posting rounds of 79 (+7).
Division 3
Division 3 belonged to Jim Brown.
Brown put together a steady round of 78 (+6) to earn his first victory of the 2026 season and become the only player in the division to break 80. His three-shot margin of victory gave him a comfortable cushion over the rest of the field.
Jason Stone finished second at 81 (+9), while Brandon Smith secured third place with an 85 (+13).
Anthony Orza finished fourth at 86 (+14), while Jimmy Pulis and Greg Mitchell shared fifth place after both posted rounds of 87 (+15).
For Brown, the victory provides an early-season boost as the race for Division 3 Player of the Year points continues.
Division 4
One of the biggest storylines of the day came in Division 4, where Thomas Pongracz earned the first Amateur Players Tour victory of his career.
Pongracz posted an 85 (+13) and found himself in a battle with Edward Pavese throughout the round. When the scores were finalized, Pongracz had secured a one-shot victory and a milestone moment in his APT journey.
Pavese finished runner-up with an 86 (+14), while Greg Hodges claimed third place at 89 (+17).
Mike Prince finished fourth at 90 (+18), and Chase Runyon and Brandon Merano shared fifth place with rounds of 91 (+19).
Division 5
John Lenz traveled from Foley, Alabama and made the trip count, earning the Division 5 title with a round of 91 (+19).
Lenz finished three shots clear of the field to secure the victory. Mark Smith finished second at 94 (+22), while reigning Division 5 Player of the Year Myron Schroeder claimed third place after posting a 97 (+25).
Kevin Finn finished fourth at 98 (+26), followed by Cole Hoffman at 99 (+27). Keith Schumacher, Kyle Jones, and James Sellner rounded out the field.
Mid-Am Net
Jimmy Pulis turned in the best net performance among the Mid-Am competitors, firing an even-par 72 to claim the title.
Pulis was the only player to finish at even par or better and finished two shots ahead of the field.
Thomas Margetich and Brandon Cory shared second place at 73 (+1), while Brandon Smith finished fourth at 76 (+4). Cleat Davis, Josh Anderson, and Colton Kool tied for fifth after carding rounds of 77 (+5).
Senior Net
The Senior Net division produced some of the lowest scores of the day.
Erik Moore led the way with an outstanding 69 (-3) to earn the victory. Moore was one of only two players to finish under par and won by two shots.
Michael Konuch finished second at 71 (-1), while Jason Stone claimed third place with an even-par 72.
Edward Pavese continued his strong day with a fourth-place finish at 73 (+1), and Greg Mitchell rounded out the top five at 74 (+2).
Looking Ahead
With another successful event in the books and $6,665 paid out to competitors, attention now turns to the next stop on the Central Illinois schedule.
Players will head to Metamora Fields Golf Club on June 7, where another strong field is expected to compete for trophies, prize money, and valuable Local and National Player of the Year points as the 2026 season continues to take shape.
