Folds of Honor Friday at Annbriar Golf Club

The Amateur Players Tour returned to Annbriar Golf Course on Friday, June 12th for Folds of Honor Friday, a national event that brought together players from across the country for the final tune-up before the APT Homecoming Major. Overnight storms across the Midwest left some uncertainty heading into the day, but the weather ultimately cooperated. While the course remained cart path only, players were greeted with comfortable temperatures and favorable conditions for scoring on one of the St. Louis area’s premier public golf facilities. With Homecoming just one day away and valuable points on the line, the field featured a strong mix of local standouts and traveling players looking to build momentum heading into the weekend.

Division 1 produced the only under-par round of the day as Matt Minder (Mechanicsburg, IL) posted a 2-under 70 to earn the victory. Minder separated himself with a steady round from start to finish and finished three shots clear of the field. Edward McDugle (Memphis, TN) claimed runner-up honors at 1-over 73, while Carson Walton (Columbia, IL) and Barney Sutley (Frankfort, KY) shared third place at 77. Chad Crawford (Wentzville, MO) rounded out the top five at 78.

Division 2 delivered the closest finish of the day. Matt Roling (Shellsburg, IA) and Michael Konuch (Maryville, IL) each carded rounds of 4-over 76 to finish tied atop the leaderboard and force a playoff. Roling ultimately secured the victory after extra holes, earning one of the more hard-fought wins of the event. Rocky Dare (Salem, NJ) finished solo third at 79, while Simay Souvannarath (Imperial, MO) claimed fourth at 81.

Mike Paubel (Lake St. Louis, MO) captured the Division 3 title after posting an 8-over 80. Paubel was able to separate himself from a tightly packed leaderboard where several players remained within striking distance throughout the round. Jason Dale (Knoxville, TN) finished second at 82, while James Heath (Georgetown, KY) claimed third with an 83. Four players shared fourth place at 84, highlighting the depth of competition throughout the division.

Division 4 saw Scott Sahli (Salem, MO) continue an impressive season with another victory after posting a 79. Sahli finished four shots clear of the field and added another strong result to his Player of the Year campaign. Clay Metzger (Lake Saint Louis, MO) finished second at 83, while Paul Spotanski (Wildwood, MO), Darrick Kimberlin (Lee’s Summit, MO), and James Plaire (Henderson, NV) shared third place at 85. The division featured one of the largest fields of the day and produced competitive battles throughout the leaderboard.

Roger Eberlein (Valley Park, MO) earned the Division 5 title with a round of 89. Eberlein held off a competitive group that saw Mark Smith (Johnston City, IL) and Jerry Crabtree (Van Buren, AR) tie for second at 92. Dane Kearns (Chesterfield, MO) finished fourth at 93, while John Skaggs (St. Louis, MO) rounded out the top five at 95.

The net competitions also featured strong performances. Scott Sahli added a Mid-Am Net victory to his day with a 6-under 66, while Paul Spotanski claimed the Senior Net title after posting a 9-under 63. Both players continued strong seasons and added valuable points in their respective season-long races.

With Folds of Honor Friday complete, attention has shifted to the APT Homecoming Major currently underway. As one of the largest weekends on the Amateur Players Tour calendar, the event has brought together players from across the country for another significant test and an important opportunity to earn points in the race toward season-long honors.
