The Minneapolis chapter returned to Fox Hollow Golf Club on Saturday for our first Elevated Event of the season, and the weather brought the heat. With temperatures pushing the heat index near 100 degrees, players faced a demanding test in calm conditions where endurance became just as important as shot-making.
Division 1 belonged to Brett Mathiowetz, who put together the round of the day with a brilliant 69 (-3). Birdies on 11 and 17 helped separate him from the field as he cruised to a seven-shot victory. Shawn Erickson finished runner-up at 76 (+4), but Mathiowetz stole the show with one of the best performances we’ve seen this season.
In Division 2, Mike Dalton captured his second victory of 2026 with an 81 (+9). Dalton weathered an up-and-down front nine and closed strong to hold off Joshua Ungaretti by nine shots. The win continued an impressive season for one of the chapter’s most consistent players.
Division 3 produced one of the day’s biggest comebacks. Mike Van Spankeren found himself three shots behind Austin Callahan at the turn, but battled back on the inward nine as Callahan struggled coming home. A par on the 18th hole sealed the victory and completed a gritty come-from-behind win for Van Spankeren.
Division 4 saw Russell Finch claim the title with a 91 (+19), while Division 5 showcased exactly what the Amateur Players Tour is all about. Cody Watkins battled through a difficult round and refused to quit, earning the victory with a 113 (+41). Golf isn’t always about playing your best—sometimes it’s about perseverance, and Watkins embodied that spirit all day long.
The net divisions featured more hardware for familiar names. Brett Mathiowetz doubled up by capturing Mid-Am Net with an incredible net 61 (-11), while Mike Dalton added the Senior Net title with a net 73 (+1), giving both players two trophies on the day.
Another outstanding event for the Minneapolis chapter and another memorable day at Fox Hollow. Between the scorching temperatures, outstanding golf, and several inspiring performances, our first Elevated Event of 2026 certainly delivered.
