Storms, Delays, and Spectacular Competition at Prairie View

The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour traveled to Carmel, Indiana, to take on the challenge of beautiful Prairie View Golf Club. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Prairie View is regarded as one of Indiana’s premier championship layouts. The course winds through rolling prairie land, wetlands, lakes, and mature hardwoods, providing a stern test for golfers of all skill levels.

Players arrived to ominous skies as dark clouds loomed overhead throughout the day. Mother Nature would eventually force a three-hour weather delay as thunder and lightning moved through the area. While the weather interrupted play, it couldn’t dampen the competitive spirit of the Indianapolis APT field. Once play resumed, golfers battled the demanding conditions and produced outstanding performances across every division.

    Division 1

The Division 1 field featured another strong performance from Player of the Year points leader Barney Sutley. Sutley continued his remarkable season by carding a one-over-par 73 to earn the victory. Cameron Slavich stayed within striking distance all day and secured second place with a 77, while Nathan Stotler rounded out the podium with an 82.

    Division 2

Standing on the final hole, Smith held a slim advantage and delivered when it mattered most, making a clutch par to secure the victory.

Smith finished atop the leaderboard with a 79, while Brooks was just one shot behind at 80. Stanley finished only two shots off the lead with a solid 81.

    Division 3

Division 3 was a heavyweight fight from start to finish. John Goddard and Ben Minnich battled neck-and-neck throughout the round, with the championship ultimately coming down to the final hole.

Goddard calmly made par on the closing hole while Minnich recorded a costly bogey, creating the one-shot difference that decided the division. Goddard claimed the title with an 82, Minnich finished second with an 83, and Jose Escamilla posted a strong 88 to finish third.

As darkness approached and the pressure mounted, Sageser produced a clutch up-and-down on the final hole to draw even with Mulholland. The championship was ultimately decided by scorecard playoff, where Sageser emerged victorious.

Keith Love was only one stroke behind the leaders, finishing third with an excellent 83.

    Looking Ahead

The weather may have delayed the action at Prairie View, but the competition brought plenty of thunder and lightning of its own. From clutch pars on the final hole to scorecard playoffs and season-defining performances, Prairie View delivered another memorable chapter in the 2026 Indianapolis APT season.

The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour now turns its attention to southern Indiana as players prepare for another exciting championship event at Chariot Run Golf Club on June 28. If Prairie View was any indication, fans can expect another thrilling day of competition.
