The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour made its way to one of Indiana’s premier championship venues, Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, for another exciting stop onthe 2026 season. Widely regarded as one of the state’s finest public courses, Purgatory challenged competitors with its links-style layout, expansive fairways framed by tall prairie grasses, and more than 130 strategically placed white limestone bunkers. Stretching across 218 acres, the course rewards precision and smart course management while punishing wayward shots. Fortunately, players were greeted with beautiful weather and outstanding course conditions, setting the stage for an excellent day of competition.
Division 1 featured the return of the Indianapolis Chapter’s Player of the Year points leader to the top of the leaderboard. Barney Sutley put together a steady and impressive round of 1-over par 73 to capture another victory and strengthen his position atop the season standings. Newcomer Brian Couzens made an immediate impact in his chapter debut, finishing just one shot back with an outstanding 74 to claim runner-up honors. Former Player of the Year Blake Claycomb rounded out the top three with a 79.
Division 2 welcomed Matthew Giudice from the Kentucky Chapter, and he made the trip worthwhile by claiming the division title with a solid 4-over par 76. Cole Thomas stayed within striking distance throughout the round before finishing second with a 78, while Nathan Fieldhouse earned third place after posting an 80.
In Division 3, Jimmy Schlink continued his strong season with an impressive 9-over par 81, good enough for another division victory. The battle behind him was incredibly tight as Josh Briem and Richard Draher tied for second after matching 83s, while John Blackburn finished just one stroke back in fourth with an 84.
Division 4 produced another exciting finish. John Pfeifer battled until the final hole, carding an 84 to edge Shannon Sageser, who finished with an 86, for the division title. Brian Ward and Jason Walling each fired rounds of 90 to share third place.
The competition in Division 5 was equally entertaining as Tom Heiser and Joe Winterrowd traded punches throughout the day. In the end, Heiser’s 88 proved just enough to earn the victory over Winterrowd’s 89. Kyle Kammer and Ray Albensi tied for third after both finished with rounds of 96.
The Mid-Am Net Division provided one of the day’s most dramatic finishes. Kyle Kammer and Jeremy Moss from the Chicago Chapter each posted outstanding 3-under par 69s, forcing a scorecard playoff. Kammer ultimately claimed the victory by virtue of the tiebreaker. Ben Minnich and Jason Walling shared third place after matching rounds of 74.
The Senior Net Division also came down to a scorecard playoff after John Pfeifer and Jimmy Schlink each fired excellent 5-under par 67s. Pfeifer emerged victorious in the tiebreaker to complete an outstanding day, while Shannon Sageser earned third place with a strong 2-under par 70.
Purgatory Golf Club once again lived up to its reputation as one of Indiana’s toughest and most rewarding tests of golf. From the demanding links-style design to the ever-present risk-and-reward decisions, every shot mattered and every division remained competitive until the final putt.
The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour now shifts its attention south as players prepare for the next stop on the schedule at the beautiful Sultan’s Run Golf Club, where another outstanding field will look to earn valuable Player of the Year points as the race toward the season finale continues.
