Amateur Players Tour: Dominance and First-Time Wins at the Dos Lagos Celebrate America

The Amateur Players Tour of Southern California gathered at the scenic Dos Lagos Golf Course on June 27th for a tournament that delivered perfect conditions and thrilling finishes across all divisions. The competition was fierce, with seasoned tour leaders holding their ground and new faces breaking through for their first career victories.

Special mention to Scott Christensen, Mark Iriarte, Thomas Meagher, and Jayson Huett for best dressed Red White and Blue Celebrate America outfits!

Division 1: Renda Continues His Reign

The headline battle of the day took place in Division 1. It was a tight, back-and-forth affair featuring Berkecem Renda, Juan Martinez, and Riley Kline, who set the pace for the majority of the round. Ultimately, Berkecem Renda’s precision off the tee and timely birdies proved to be the difference-maker. Renda carded an impressive 2-under 68, securing another tour victory and further cementing his position as the season’s points leader.

Division 2: Huett Cruises to Victory

Division 2 saw a high-stakes duel at the top of the leaderboard involving Jayson Huett, Mark Iriarte, Vinny Obrien, and Troy Shedeed. Despite the intense pressure from his competitors, Jayson Huett played a steady, composed round. While Iriarte and Shedeed fought to close the gap, Huett capitalized on a pair of key birdies to finish with an even-par 70. With this win, Huett continues his impressive run, once again shooting Division 1 scoring numbers.

Division 3: A Home course advantage

In Division 3, local favorite Ryan Maramis provided the shot of the day. Playing on his home course, Maramis was locked in a back-and-forth battle with John Scott (Fallbrook, CA.) The tournament swung in Maramis’s favor on the 17th hole, where he stuck his approach shot to within two feet. He drained the subsequent birdie putt, propelling him to a final score of 75 and an emotional victory in his own backyard.

    Division 4: A Breakthrough Performance

Division 4 introduced several new contenders to the leaderboard, including Brian Lamers, Barret Miller (Orange, CA), and Brad Forsyth. The tension was palpable on the final green, where Barret Miller had a chance to force a playoff but narrowly missed a 4-foot putt on the 18th. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Brian Lamers held steady to secure his first-ever win on the Amateur Players Tour with an 11-over 81

    Division 5: Olmos Dominates

Kirk Olmos (Moreno Valley, CA) put on a commanding display in Division 5. While the rest of the field struggled to find consistency, Olmos maintained his rhythm throughout the round, firing a 99 to dominate the division and walk away with a decisive victory.
