Tournament Recap: Drama at The Golf Club of California

The Amateur Players Tour took over the stunning greens of Fallbrook, CA, on June 6, 2026. With the California sun shining and perfect scoring conditions, the field was set for a day of high-stakes golf and late-round heroics.

Division 1: Caldwell Sets the Pace

Josh Caldwell navigated the challenging layout with precision, carding a 77 to secure the Division 1 title. His steady play allowed him to stay ahead of the pack in the breezy Fallbrook conditions.  2 guests joined us in Division 1 Louis DePiro (Porter Ranch, CA) came in second with an 80 and Raymond Bates (Aliso Viejo, CA) We wish Raymond luck as he attempts to earn a spot in the US Senior Open final round qualifying next week.

Division 2: A Battle to the End

In Division 2, Jayson Huett emerged victorious with a solid 81. He narrowly edged out Andres Viramontes, who put up a valiant effort to finish just one stroke back at 82.  Jayson made it interesting hitting into the water on 18 giving Andres a chance.  However Jayson hit a great shot from the drop zone and was able to make hit putt for a bogey winning by one over Andres.

    Division 3: Playoff Fireworks

The most dramatic finish of the day occurred in Division 3. Blake Moorman (Fallbrook,CA) appeared to have the win in hand until a bogey on the 18th hole dropped him into a tie with John Scott (Fallbrook, CA) , who had been waiting in the clubhouse.  Zack Jellsey (Eastvale, CA) was trying to get into the mix hitting it stiff on 18 to win the CTP and made his birdie putt to secure a Super skin and it ended up putting him at 83 and third place, just one shot back.

    • The Playoff: On the first playoff hole, Moorman found the hazard, seemingly handing the advantage to Scott. However, in a display of incredible grit, Moorman scrambled his way to a miraculous bogey/save to claim the trophy. Both players finished regulation with an 82

    Division 4: The Late Surge

Division 4 was a rollercoaster. Roberto Covarrubias (Alta Dena, CA) dominated much of the round, but a difficult stretch on the closing holes opened the door for the field.

    • Royce Jiang (Chino, CA) capitalized on the opportunity, carding a clutch par on the 18th to force a tie with Victor Lopez (Rialto, CA), who had posted his score two hours earlier.
    • Jiang ultimately took the top spot, with Lopez already gone supporting his daughter’s golf tournament and unable to compete in the playoff.  This  gave Royce the win and Vic finishing  second but number one as a Dad with Fathers Day coming up!

Division 5: Disqualification Results in win for Weatherby

Tommy Weatherby, with a 94, takes the win after an up-and-down day.  He continued to battle against the rest of the field but ended up taking the win!

    Net Side Game Winners

Beyond the divisional titles, two players were recognized for their exceptional play against the field:

    • Senior Net Winner: John Scott, second Roberto Covarrubias
