Overnight rains followed by scorching summer heat made for a demanding day at the final regular-season Elevated Event on the Tulsa APT Golf schedule. With temperatures climbing above 95 degrees and humidity reaching oppressive levels, players across all five divisions battled not only one of the area’s most challenging layouts, but also the difficult weather conditions at Forest Ridge.

    Division 1

John Ryan Bonaobra of Tulsa made his late decision to enter the tournament a memorable one, overtaking early leader T.J. Eckert of Bixby and holding on for a two-shot victory.

Nine Division 1 players teed it up Saturday, with Eckert posting an even-par front nine to take a one-shot lead. He extended his advantage with a birdie on the 10th hole, but a costly double bogey at No. 13 allowed Bonaobra to pull even. Eckert played his final five holes at even par, but Bonaobra finished in spectacular fashion, birdieing the final two holes to secure the victory after an entertaining back-and-forth battle.

    Division 2

A strong Division 2 field, including 2025 Division 2 Player of the Year Jimmy Borzone, competed for the increased purse made possible through the generous support of Tulsa APT Golf partner Wheeler Metals of Muskogee.

Paul Froass of the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter made the trip north to Tulsa and returned home with the victory. Eric Shelton jumped out to the early lead with a front-nine 38, while Froass and Tyrell Palmer of Joplin remained within striking distance. Froass delivered an outstanding 1-under-par back nine to post a 74, then watched Borzone mount a furious charge after an uncharacteristically sloppy front side. Although Borzone closed the gap and applied pressure down the stretch, Froass calmly birdied the final hole to extend his winning margin to three strokes and take the championship back to Texas.

    Division 3

Dean Milam of Tulsa captured his first Tulsa APT Golf victory with a three-shot win over fellow Tulsan George Purdy. APT veteran Michael Foster finished one stroke farther back in third place.

Milam appeared poised to pull away before an untimely triple bogey on the 17th hole brought the field back within striking distance. Refusing to let the momentum slip away, Milam responded with a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to clinch his first APT victory.

    Division 4

Division 4 once again delivered the day’s most dramatic finish.

Roger Dollins, Troy Smith, and Mark Helms of the APT DFW Chapter finished regulation tied atop the leaderboard, sending the championship into a sudden-death playoff. Helms made par onthe opening playoff hole to claim the victory at Forest Ridge. Dollins and Smith shared second place, while Joe Kok rounded out the top four.

    Division 5

Steve Lumpkin played steady, disciplined golf throughout the round, limiting costly mistakes and earning another Tulsa APT Golf victory in Division 5.

Lumpkin’s consistency proved to be the difference as he held off 82-year-old Jerry Crabtree, whose outstanding performance in the oppressive heat was one of the day’s most impressive efforts. Crabtree battled to the finish but ultimately came up just short of overtaking Lumpkin for the title.

Tulsa APT Golf extends its sincere appreciation to our tournament partner, Wheeler Metals of Muskogee, for helping make this Elevated Event a tremendous success.

We would also like to thank the entire staff at The Club at Forest Ridge for their outstanding hospitality and support throughout the event. Their efforts helped provide another first-class tournament experience for our members.
