Tulsa APT Golf Battles 100-Degree Heat at Indian Springs
Indian Springs Country Club played host to 45 Tulsa APT Golf players on a blistering hot Saturday afternoon in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees and the heat index reaching 110 degrees, players battled not only a tough golf course but also some of the most challenging weather conditions of the summer.
Division 1:
Bixby, Oklahoma’s TJ Eckert and Rogers, Arkansas native Collin New waged an intense battle on the back nine before the final outcome was decided. Eckert built a three-stroke advantage through 11 holes, but watched his lead disappear as New birdied the 12th before draining a 60-foot birdie putt on the 14th to tie the match.
Eckert responded with a par on the long par-3 16th to regain a one-stroke advantage heading into the final two holes. New was unable to make up the difference and settled for second, one stroke behind. Russell Gardner finished third, while defending Division 1 Player of the Year Andy Proctor shot an impressive even-par on the final nine holes to finish fourth.
Division 2:
Eric Shelton of Neosho, Missouri, picked up his first Tulsa APT Golf victory of the season after opening with a one-over-par 37 and building a four-stroke cushion over the first nine holes. Shelton played steady golf on the inward nine to maintain his advantage and claim the victory by four strokes over Kendall Price of Hackett, Arkansas, and William Duncan, who tied for second. The victory continues an impressive season for Shelton, who has now finished no worse than fifth in every event he has played this season.
Division 3:
George Purdy picked up another Tulsa APT Golf victory by outlasting Dana Moore of Owasso over the final nine holes. The two were tied after the opening nine, but Purdy quickly grabbed control with a birdie on No. 10 and a par on No. 11 to build a two-stroke advantage.
The two players traded blows over the final seven holes, but Moore could get no closer than one stroke before settling for second, two shots behind Purdy.
Division 4:
Alexander Chung, looking for his second APT victory of the year and his first with Tulsa APT Golf, needed only a par on the 18th hole to secure the win outright. Instead, Chung made bogey, sending him into a playoff with Roger Dollins of Tahlequah.
Chung redeemed himself on the first playoff hole with a clutch par to claim the victory, while Dollins struggled to a double bogey. Troy Smith, playing his usual consistent game, finished third, just one stroke outside the playoff.
Division 5:
Steve Lumpkin continued his summer dominance in Division 5, posting a 91 to claim first-place honors. Lumpkin built a commanding advantage on the outward nine and cruised to a seven-stroke victory—his fifth win of the year.
Jerry Crabtree of Van Buren, Arkansas, made a strong charge on the back nine, improving by six strokes to move into second place.
Mid-Am Net:
Collin New took home the Mid-Am Net trophy after winning a scorecard playoff over Division 1 winner TJ Eckert.
Senior Net:
Dana Moore captured the Senior Net title with a convincing seven-stroke victory.
With another event in the books, the Tulsa APT Golf season continues to heat up as players make their final push for valuable Player of the Year points and a spot among the division champions heading into the season finale.
