Severe storms threatened to ruin a perfect golf setting in Alma, Arkansas at Eagle Crest Golf Course, but a morning prayer led by Head Golf Professional Andrew Dahl seemed to redirect the weather as 54 competitors teed it up in pursuit of the Lumber One bonus money at the River Valley Open. Players were greeted with an immaculately prepared golf course and cool temperatures to start Saturday’s round.

    Division 1

Matthew Schiffer of Bentonville, Arkansas, part of a group of players affectionately known as the “Joplin Mafia,” captured his first win of the season at Eagle Crest. Schiffer will look tocontinue his hot streak as Tulsa APT Golf heads to Shadow Valley Country Club on June 6th.

    Division 2

In a tightly contested battle that featured five or six different players in the mix throughout the morning, red-hot Jacob Casey made it two APT victories in a row by holding off a talented field of challengers. Kendall Price, David Greenfield, Dennis Joyce, Riley Saddler, and Eric Shelton all made strong runs at Casey early, but Casey stayed steady down the stretch to secure his fourth APT win of the season. Saddler finished one shot back, while Price and Shelton tied for third, another shot behind.

    Division 3

Norman Springwater scattered seven bogeys across eighteen holes while avoiding any big numbers, finishing with a winning score of 7-over-par 78 to pull away from recent APT winner Jay Williams, who posted a solid 9-over 80 to finish second. Arkansas APT Golf Director Rob Luter and Jody Braud of Hot Springs finished one stroke further back in third place.

    Division 4

Klayton Solberg, new this season to Tulsa APT Golf, posted his best APT round to date with an 8-over 79, earning a two-shot victory in Division 4 over Troy Smith of Broken Arrow and Mike Shelton of Neosho, Missouri. Smith and Shelton each carded rounds of 81.

    Division 5

Eighty-year-old Larry Griffith found the fairway on the first playoff hole against Adam Hodge and calmly converted a par to claim the Division 5 title. Both Griffith and Hodge finished regulation tied at 17-over-par 88.

    Mid-Am Net Division

Adam Hodge rebounded from his playoff loss in Division 5 by posting a winning score of 4-under-par to capture the Mid-Am Net title. Jacob Casey followed up his Division 2 victory with a runner-up finish.

    Senior Net Division

Troy Smith, who finished second in Division 4, earned the Senior Net title with an impressive 5-under-par 66, besting Jay Williams, Rob Luter, and Dennis Joyce.

Tulsa APT Golf would like to thank Andrew Dahl and his staff at Eagle Crest Golf Course for their tremendous effort in providing a first-class golf experience for all APT competitors. We would also like to thank Dennis Joyce and Lumber One for their continued support of Tulsa APT Golf. Lumber One of Van Buren, Arkansas served as the presenting sponsor for the River Valley Open at Eagle Crest.

Tulsa APT Golf now turns its attention to the long-awaited event at the immaculate Shadow Valley Country Club on June 6th.
