This past weekend, the stage was set in Winfield, KS at the great track Quail Ridge Golf Course. Course was in great shape overall, the fairways were like carpet and the greens rolling well. Players needed some accuracy on this tricky track and sure wanted to avoid the rough or the tall native areas. Balls were tough to find and when they were found in some of the longer stuff, it was a challenge getting the ball out with distance. Really want to say great job to John (head pro), Chaney (asst head pro) and Jeremy (golf course superintendent) on a great product they put on for our players!
⛳️ 🏆 In D1, new member, Ryan Walker starting his APT career out with a win. Played very steady golf shooting an EVEN, 72 on the day. Birdie on 9, EAGLE on 10, and another Birdie on 12 (all par 5’s) was the strength for him. When asked in the post round interview, the putter was key. Kelly Sellers also shooting a 74 (+2) very consistent round, was +2 in the first 4 holes, then settled in and then went on a tear and shot birdies on 9, 10, 12 and 13!! Boston Arnold, in his second tournament with APT, shot a solid round of 76 and rounded out the top 3. Could be some good golf and new found friendly rivalries in D1 coming soon!
⛳️ 🏆 D2, Will Duncan, by way of the Tulsa Chapter, had the winning round of 80 (+8)! Very consistent golf, great driver and iron play and kept it on the short stuff almost all day! Scoring one birdie and shooting a 38 on the front was a key to the win. Shooting 42 on the back was still a great score as the temps were getting hotter and was wearing players out. Jason Dodd finishing 2nd with an 81 (+9) on the day and almost completed his comeback with two very consistent 9’s (41/40).
⛳️ 🏆 In D3, Matt Jensen got his first victory on APT this weekend shooting a score of 82 (+10). After starting out with a triple bogey on hole one, wedge shot for birdie in from the rough on hole 4 and 9 pars on the next 10 holes right after that. Steady round, keeping the ball in play and putting the LAB to work on the greens was key to his round. Jay Jones, by way of the Kansas City Chapter, scored a 84 (+12) on the day for second place and Chad Westbrook shooting a solid 87 (+15) and his best round on APT in the tournaments he has played in.
⛳️ 🏆 D4 winner was Gary Wright and it wasn’t an easy win! This decision, came down to the last hole! Gary was seen coming off the course in 2nd place and was told don’t put those clubs away! Jeff Rader was leading with 2 holes left and a stroke lead! Jeff shot par on 17 and then tripled on 18, to score the win for Gary. Gary scored a 89 (+17) on the day and played some very consistent bogey golf. 2nd place went to Rex Robinson who shot a 90 (+18) and a tie for third between Kelly McDowell and Jeff Rader both shooting 91 (+19). Great finish and close competition this week in D4 was exciting to see!
⛳️ 🏆 In D5, we have a new winner in the group! Steve Ellis by way of the Tulsa Chapter went 89 (+17) to take D5! Really solid round of golf and beating out Aaron Eaton (Kansas City Chapter) and Erik Hopper (Wichita Chapter) who shot 91 and 98 respectively. Steve closed out his round with an impressive birdie on 18 and will be taking that momentum into his next event!
