Tournament Champions
The St. Louis Amateur Players Tour returned to Far Oaks Golf Club on Sunday, October 25th in Caseyville, Illinois for a premier amateur golf tournament, the second stop of the chapter’s 2027 season of St. Louis amateur golf tournaments. A sold-out field of 92 players competed across five divisions, with the Mid-Am Net and Senior Net games contested alongside. Players are flighted into divisions based on their APT Tournament Index.
Far Oaks played to a par of 72 and was in fantastic condition, and the field took full advantage of what amounted to perfect scoring conditions. The par-5 opener was the softest hole on the property, yielding 21 birdies and a pair of eagles — Matt Roling and Scott Sahli each made three there — and playing just under half a shot over par. The par-4 11th was the opposite proposition: it surrendered exactly one birdie all day and played better than a shot and a half over par.
The weather gave nobody an excuse. It was another beautiful fall day on the Illinois side, temperatures in the high 70s, sunny and without a breath of wind, which left the golf course itself as the only thing standing between the field and low numbers.
Autohaus BMW, sponsor of the Autohaus BMW St. Louis Player of the Year, was on hand for the second event of the 2027 season with a beautiful X7 on display at the course. Autohaus BMW is a family-owned and operated authorized BMW dealer at 3015 S. Hanley Drive in Maplewood, Missouri, founded in 1966 by Willi and Anita Fink and still run by members of the founding family. Our thanks to Autohaus BMW for backing the chapter and the Player of the Year race.
Division 1 came down to a middle nine that nobody else could match. Justin Beaston of Troy, IL turned in even-par 36 and was still level with John Todd and Neil Ghanti after six holes, but by the twelfth he had pushed five clear of Todd and four clear of Ghanti and never gave the lead back. Beaston birdied the par-3 2nd, the par-4 10th and the par-4 12th, came home in 2-over 38 and signed for a 2-over 74 and a three-shot win. Todd, of Wright City, MO, and Ghanti, of St Louis, MO, shared second at 5-over 77 to round out the money positions. Todd played the steadiest card in the division with 13 pars, his lone birdie coming at the par-5 3rd. Ghanti also went out in even-par 36 and finished in style, playing his last three holes in 1-under with birdies at the par-4 15th and the par-5 18th. Four players finished within five of the lead.
Division 2 produced the low round of the day and the best finish of the afternoon. Todd Feuerhaken of Cottleville, MO came to the risk-reward par-5 18th tied for the lead with Eric Fogleman at 2-over. Fogleman, playing in the group ahead, made par there to post 2-over 74 and set the stage. Feuerhaken laid up to roughly 80 yards, and the pressure-packed approach that followed nearly went in, spinning back to about a foot and leaving a tap-in birdie for the win — a 1-over 73, a one-shot victory, and Feuerhaken’s first of the 2027 season. He had set it up early, going out in 1-under 35 with birdies at the par-5 1st and the par-3 8th, and he played the closing six holes in even par. Fogleman, of Saint Louis, MO, was level with Feuerhaken after twelve and matched him with 1-over 37s on both nines, birdieing the par-5 9th and the par-4 10th. Colin Hall of Saint Charles, MO, who was also tied with the lead after fifteen holes, Daniel Black of Bunker, MO, Michael Konuch of Maryville, IL and Taylor Young of Salem, MO all posted 4-over 76 to share third and round out the money positions. Hall made four birdies, including the 1st, the 8th and the par-5 9th in a stretch of two; Konuch came home in even-par 36; Young played his final three holes in 1-under with a birdie at the last. Eight players finished within five shots of Feuerhaken.
Division 3 was a four-man scrap for most of the back nine. Kevin Zawodniak of Troy, IL birdied the par-5 1st and the par-4 4th on his way to a 2-over 38, added another at the par-5 14th and held on for a 6-over 78 and a one-stroke win. He needed all of it: Rick Johnson of Sullivan, IL and Christian Benavides of Saint Charles, MO had both drawn level with fifteen holes played. Johnson, who made four birdies on the day including two in his first two holes, posted 7-over 79 for second. Benavides and Eric Willenbrink of Ballwin, MO tied for third at 8-over 80 to round out the money positions. Willenbrink’s birdie at the 11th was the only one the hardest hole on the course gave up all day.
Division 4 belonged to Michael Moynihan of St Louis, MO, who went out in 3-over 39 and finished with a birdie at the par-5 18th for an 11-over 83 and a four-shot win. Justin Levine of Wentzville, MO had pulled level with three holes to play before Moynihan closed it out; Levine and Stevie Frank of Lake St Louis, MO shared second at 15-over 87, with Frank’s birdie coming at the par-4 5th. Dave Draucker of Troy, IL, John Abercrombie of Cape Girardeau, MO, Mike Scalera of St. Peters, MO and Mark Smith of Johnston City, IL all signed for 16-over 88 and a share of fourth to round out the money positions. Abercrombie birdied the 18th; Smith birdied the par-4 17th, one of the three hardest holes on the card.
Division 5 was dead level with fifteen holes played before Kenneth Finkbeiner of Arnold, MO separated himself over the closing stretch. Finkbeiner, who birdied the par-5 3rd, posted 16-over 88 for a three-shot win over Jason Smith of Rolla, MO, who answered with a birdie at the par-4 10th in his 19-over 91. Robert Davis of Patton, MO finished third at 21-over 93.
The Mid-Am Net went to Daniel Black, whose net 2-over 74 was one better than Justin Levine‘s net 3-over 75 — a strong double for both men, Black having also shared third in Division 2 and Levine second in Division 4. Andrew Masters of St. Louis, MO and Thomas Agnew of Saint Louis, MO tied for third at net 4-over 76 to round out the money positions. Ten players finished within five of the lead.
Senior Net ended level at the top. Michael Moynihan and Rick Johnson both returned net 3-under 69, sharing the points and the purse, with Moynihan completing a Division 4 win and a share of the Senior Net title in the same afternoon. Kenneth Finkbeiner and Todd Feuerhaken followed at net 1-under 71, Michael Konuch posted net even-par 72, and Brad Garrett of Lake Saint Louis, MO and Christian Benavides shared sixth at net 1-over 73 to round out the money positions.
