Tournament Champions
For players searching for Western Kentucky amateur golf tournaments or premier Paducah-area golf events, the Amateur Players Tour opened its 2027 season on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at the WKY – Kentucky Dam Golf Championship at Kentucky Dam Village Golf Course in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. A field of 18 players took on the par-72 layout for the chapter’s first stop of the new season, with six contests on the board and visiting members from the Kentucky, East Tennessee, Nashville and St. Louis chapters making the trip to western Kentucky to get their campaigns started.
In Division 1, 18 holes would not be enough to decide a champion. RJ Foltz and Tim Heslet both signed for 3-over 75 — co-low rounds of the day — and the title was settled beyond regulation. The two got there by very different routes. Foltz, in from the Kentucky chapter by way of Brentwood, Tennessee, went low early and often on the outward half, picking off birdies at the par-4 4th and the par-5 5th on his way to a 1-under 35, the only sub-par nine posted in the division. He gave strokes back coming home in 4-over 40 but steadied himself late, playing the closing six holes in even par and adding a third birdie at the par-4 17th. Heslet, of Nebo, Kentucky, built his number on pure attrition: 13 pars, four bogeys, nothing worse all day, out in 2-over 38 and home in 1-over 37 with a closing birdie at the par-5 18th. Conner Gates of Hopkinsville was next at 6-over 78, turning in 2-over 38 with a birdie at the par-5 8th before a 4-over 40 inward half left him three adrift of the lead.
Division 2 came down to who could hold the back nine. Matt Walkley of Paducah did exactly that, posting 5-over 77 for a three-shot win and the third-lowest round in the field. Walkley went out in 4-over 40, then flipped the switch, coming home in 1-over 37 and playing the final six holes in even par, capped by a birdie at the par-5 18th. Eleven pars and not a single double bogey anywhere on the card told the story of a tidy afternoon. Steven Todd, of McKenzie, Tennessee, gave chase but fell short, stumbling to 9-over 45 on the front before authoring the sharpest inward half of anyone in the field — a 1-under 35 that included a birdie at the par-4 13th and had him playing the last six holes in 1 under on his way to 8-over 80.
Division 3 belonged to Paul Harris. The East Tennessee member from Evensville matched his nines at 3-over 39 apiece for 6-over 78, grinding out ten pars and keeping a clean card free of doubles, with his lone birdie arriving at the par-3 7th. That was good for a three-stroke win over Matt Love of Greenbrier, Tennessee, who recovered from a 6-over 42 start to play the inward nine in 3-over 39, collecting birdies at the par-4 9th and the par-5 18th, and finished at 9-over 81 to round out the money positions. Sid Pomeroy of Brentwood finished in 3rd, having made the turn in 4-over 40 with a birdie at the par-4 6th. Behind that pair at the top, the division spread out in a hurry — only two players finished within seven shots of Harris, with two more bunched together at 97.
Division 4 produced the tightest finish of the day. Dustin Babb of Murray posted 16-over 88 — matching nines of 8-over 44 — and held on by a single stroke over Mark Smith of Johnston City, Illinois, who went out in 8-over 44 and came home in 9-over 45 for 17-over 89. Babb fought through a stretch that produced eight bogeys but found six pars to anchor the round, and the one-shot margin held up all the way to the scoring table. Marty Offutt of Mayfield finished in 3rd.
In the Mid-Am Net division, Nick Johnson of Metropolis, Illinois turned in a net 6-over 78. Johnson went out in 9-over 45 and came home in 11-over 47 in gross terms, with the highlight of his card a birdie at the par-3 11th.
The Senior Net contest delivered the only sub-par number of the day and the chapter’s first double-dip of the season. Paul Harris, already a winner in Division 3, converted his 78 into a net 1-under 71 and completed the double-dip by a single stroke. Tim Heslet was right behind him at net even-par 72, backing up his Division 1 performance with a second strong showing, and Matt Love made it three players separated by two shots, signing for net 1-over 73. It was the deepest finish on the board — three players inside two strokes of the lead and four within seven — and it needed the full 18 to sort out.
With the 2027 season now underway in Western Kentucky, the chapter’s Player of the Year race is officially on the clock. Next up is the WKY – Boots Randolph Elevated on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Registration for that event is already open and closes on November 2, so players looking to add a start to their schedule should get their names on the list before the deadline.
