Lone-Star Shootout @ TPC San Antonio Results
March 9, 2021 -- San Antonio, TX
The Amateur Players Tour saw How the West Was Won this past weekend at the inaugural Lone Star Shootout at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. The first individual National Major of the 2021 APT Season attracted High Plains Drifters from 19 different states and 21 different chapters.
A sold out field of one hundred and twenty clubslingers with True Grit rode into town Friday afternoon to stake their claim to a Fistful of Gift Cards and priority status exemptions to the 2021 North American Championships at Pinehurst Resort this October that were up for grabs in the Texas Hill Country just north of town. The Canyons course and the AT&T Oaks course, host of the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open, proved worthy of the championship producing The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
The Kentucky Chapter’s Eric King jumped out to a lead in Division 1 with a steady 3-over 75 on the Canyons course on Saturday. Playing in the final group with chasers, Matt Minder and Nate McCutcheon from St. Louis, King steadied himself after a shaky start on the Oaks course and held on down the stretch to earn a three shot victory and the $500 dollar APT Gift Card. Carolina Triad’s Brian Hayes turned in the low round in Div. 1 on Sunday with a solid 82.
