On Monday, the St. Louis tour traveled to a new venue, the Jack Nicklaus designed private WingHaven Country Club in O'Fallon, MO. 148 players descended on WingHaven, making this the largest tournament in APT history. Over $3,600 in prizes were paid out in VISA Gift Cards for this Monday event with perfect weather. Players went off in morning and afternoon waves, with the average pace of play being better than 4:30.
In Division 1, Michael Flynn and Brent Holmes both shot solid rounds of +4 76 to take the top honors. Because an on-course playoff was not possible, both Flynn and Holmes first-place honors and $185 each in the 21-man field. Matt Borgmeyer started off his 2021 campaign in St. Louis strong, with a strong round of +5 77 to finish one-stroke back in 3rd place and earn a $50 VISA gift card. Nate McCutcheon and Bryan Thayer tied for 4th with rounds of 79.
In Division 2, Mike Hornak added to his good finishes at the end of the 2020 season by shooting the day's best round of 2-over 74 and besting a field of 35 players to earn a 4-shot victory over Drew Vandas who shot 78 to finish in solo 2nd place. Hornak took home the top prize of $325, while Vandas earns $135. In 3rd place, Tyler Dougherty and Joel Miller each finished with 79, earning $95 each in VISA gift cards. Dave Adams and Daren Green finished tied for 5th, earning $25 each. Adams continues the hot start to his 2021 season, which includes a national major win at the Winter Fourball at Orange County National. With the win, Hornak earns an invitation to the champions only event at TPC Danzante Bay in Mexico in 2022. Congratulations to Mike Hornak, who with his stellar round has earned himself a promotion to Division 1 with a 2.8 index. We wish him continued success on the APT this season!
In Division 3, Tim Koncki made it 2 for 2 on the young season, beating a field of 44 players shooting an 81 to earn a 3 shot victory. Koncki earns the top prize of $385. Ray Morales, Ron Polillo, Peter Allen and Brian Koch each tied for 2nd place shooting 84, and earned $123.75 each for their efforts. Nashville's Kevin Smith came in 6th place with an 85 to earn $30. Iowa chapter owner Paul Schmitz and Rocky Mountain chapter owners Luke Barritt and Mark Amman made the trip to play in the stacked Division 3 field. With the victory, Koncki moves up 2 spots in the player of the year race, where Peter Allen maintains the early lead. Don't forget, each Division winner in St. Louis will receive a $750 prize package!
In Division 4, Mike Scalera returned to the winner's circle, carding an 84 to earn a 3-shot victory over Adam Gulley. Scalera bested the field of 23 players to earn the $250 top prize, while Gulley took home $110 for his efforts. Jason Stone built off his strong finish to 2020 with a 3rd place finish to earn $70, while Mary Kolda made a strong debut with a 4th place finish to earn $30. With the victory, Mike Scalera moves up 2 places in the standings to 2nd place, while the lead is currently held by Steve Minder who shot 90 to finish tied for 5th.
In Division 5, Gregory Miller earned his first victory carding a 93 to earn $260 and a 2-shot victory over Alex Price, who finished in 2nd place with a 95 and $120. Lauren Borgmeyer finished in 3rd place with a 96, earning $70 while Jake Stroker, Brian Mulchek and Albert Orelt each tied for 4th place earning $16.67 each for their efforts against the 25-person field. With the victory, Gregory Miller vaults up 5 spots in the Player of the Year race to 2nd position, behind early season leader Mike Pittroff. Remember, the top-3 in the standings as of August 2nd will earn priority status to the inaugural North American Championship at Pinehurst Resorts to be contested October 25-27.
From here, the St. Louis tour moves to its first ever regional event at Tunica National Resorts in Mississippi to be contested with the Nashville, Birmingham and Memphis tours.
