The Charleston Amateur Players Tour returned to the Lowcountry of South Carolina this past weekend, traveling to Wyboo Golf Clun in Manning, SC.

Nestled in the western edge of the Lowcountry, Wyboo Golf Club lies adjacent to and meanders through Deercreek Plantation and across the road from Wyboo Plantation, two exquisite, gated resort communities.

Wyboo Golf Club is a Tom Jackson Signature Course, opened in October 1999. Having steadily grown in popularity and respect, it reached acclaim in 2003 when the sports editor of the State Newspaper of Columbia, SC, named it one of the Top 10 golf courses available to the public in the state of South Carolina.

The course features spacious fairways, but requires precise approach shots into the greens, as bunkers and hazards sit nearby waiting to catch an errant shot.

Saturday, the golfers enjoyed the day of competition with cash and VISA gift card prizes on the line. The Charleston Amateur Players Tour travels the Lowcountry of the Palmetto State, giving golfers of all skill levels a chance to compete across ten different divisions.

The tour is designed by the players, for the players, and strives to create a fun-filled and competitive environment for all golfers, from beginners to lifelong players.

Here’s a breakdown of the results from Saturday’s round:

Division 1 – Michael Huh overcame a rocky start on Saturday to post a round of 75 and win Division 1 on Saturday. Huh made consecutive double bogeys on the front nine before bouncing back with a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Bond Williams finished runner-up after firing a round of 80. Williams made two birdies in his final three holes on the front nine, birding the par-four seventh hole before taking advantage of the closing par-five on the front nine.

Division 2 – Kevin Lyles got off to a hot start and never let off in route to shooting 76 and winning Division 2 on Saturday. Lyles made birdies on the second and sixth holes to shoot one under par on the front nine.

Sean Mason had a steady front nine that included seven pars and just two bogeys as he posted a round of 80 to finish in second place.

Division 3 – Cliff Marcum’s eagle on the par-four fourth hole proved to be the difference on Saturday in Division 3 as the Surfside Beach, SC native took home the top honors with a round of 74. Marcum birdied the par-four third hole before making eagle to move to two under par on the front nine.

Marcum would go on to shoot even par on the front nine as he and second-place finisher Jesse Johnson found themselves in a two-way battle. Johnson posted a 75, one shot shy of Marcum to finish in second place.

Johnson made a push down the stretch on the back nine, making birdie on the par-five 15th hole to play his final five holes in one under par.

Chris Minar finished in third place with a round of 78. Minar found his groove at the turn, making birdies on two of the first three holes on the back nine.

Jeff Price and Pat Ryan rounded out the top-five in the division with rounds of 79 to tie for fourth place.

Senior Division 3 – The same battle played out in Senior Division 3 as Cliff Marcum defeated Jesse Johnson by just one shot to take the top spot. Marcum made two birdies and an eagle on the day to complete the clean sweep of Division 3 with a score of 74.

Johnson made seven pars on the front and just two bogeys to turn in 38 shots, before firing a 37 on the back nine to shoot 75 and finish second.

Chris Minar finished third after carding a 78, followed by Jeff Price and Pat Ryan in a tie for fourth place with rounds of 79. Price’s round featured two birdies, one on each side.

Division 4 – Manning, SC native Mike Howell made himself at home on Saturday, getting off to a hot start before posting a round of 80 to win Division 4. Howell made a birdie on the par-four third hole to offset a bogey made on No. 2. He finished the front nine with six straight pars before shooting 44 on the back nine.

Ralph Perritano finished second, two shots behind Howell. Like Howell, Perritano found the going much easier on the front nine, carding a one over par 37 to start the day.

Bruce Shively finished third with a round of 84, followed by Dave Funkhouser in fourth with an 87. Thomas Hart rounded out the top-five with a score of 88.

Senior Division 4 – Mike Howell made it a clean sweep on Saturday as his round of 80 was also enough to claim the top honors in Senior Division 4. After shooting even par on the front nine, Howell made just enough pars on the back to secure the victory by two shots.

Ralph Perritano finished runner-up, posting a round of 82. Perritano’s highlight of the round came on the par-three eighth hole when he made birdie.

Bruce Shively and Kenneth Johnson tied for third place with rounds of 84, as Dave Funkhouser rounded out the top-five with a score of 87.

Division 5 – Finding his groove just before making the turn, James Ebert played his final five holes of the front nine in even par in route to shooting 88 and winning Division 5 on Saturday. Ebert made birdie on the par-five ninth hole to shoot 40 on the front nine.

Leroy Anderson finished second, four shots behind after posting a score of 92. Nolan Prestwood shot 94 to finish third, followed by Aaron Tardif in fourth with a round of 98. Sean Hammonds rounded out the top-five in the division with a round of 99.

Senior Division 5 – James Ebert’s victory in Senior Division 5 was a little less stressful as his round of 88 was more than enough to claim the top spot. Nolan Prestwood rounded out the division with a round of 94 in second place.
