It was a heck of a season in Kansas City with 183 active members competing in 5 divisions for Player of the Year in addition to Senior Net. Multiple POY races came down to the WinterStone Championship, with some divisions only 3 points apart. Players were going to have to bring their A game and did not disappoint!

Division 1 was a constant battle at the top of the leaderboard with Larry Langley and Jacob Bruhn finishing the front nine at even par and Kory Glasgow and Garret Wilson 1 shot behind. Stumbling with bogey on holes 10 and 11, Larry quickly lost the lead to Jacob and Kory. But he wasn’t done fighting. A clutch birdie on hole 16 and 18, Larry leapt back to the top of the leaderboard, carding an impressive 73. All eyes were on Kory, also at +1, where the final hole would decide it all. Kory wasn’t able to pull it off giving Larry Langley his first 2024 win! But Kory did not go home empty handed, his impressive play in 2024 earned him our coveted Division 1 Player of the Year with an astounding 4,421 points!

Division 2 was a nailbiter till the very end with some season low scores and a tightly packed leaderboard! Kevin Stief led the pack after 9 holes with even par while Lane Setser, Todd Gurss and Spencer McGrath weren’t far behind at +3. Lane Setser came out firing on the back 9 with even par carding a 75, his lowest round on APT! Spencer McGrath fought hard till the end carding a turkey with birdies on 16, 17 and 18 but it wasn’t enough to catch Kevin who continued his excellent play with a birdie on 11 and 14 but fell short on hole 16 with a double, carding one of his lowest scores of the year at 74. Kevin took home the win, his 2nd of the year! Even though he battled till the very end Kevin fell just 49 points shy of Matthew Thorman for Player of the Year. Matt’s continual improvement in 2024 earned him a promotion to D1 near the end, but his points in D2 lived on and netted him his first Player of the Year title!

Division 3 had four players within 50 points for our Player of the Year title, and with all four in the same pairing, the winner would take it all! I’d love to say it was a battle, but Chris Hubbard came to win and didn’t hold back. Shooting a career low -3 through 9 holes, it wasn’t even close. All Chris had to do was keep it together on the back nine and that he did! Carding his all-time career low of 74, Chris not only took home the win in D3 but also the 2024 Player of the Year accolades! Congratulation Chris!

Division 4 was anyone’s game going into the Season Championship with multiple players needing to catch Rocky Metcalf at the top of the Player of the Year leaderboard. With the excellent course conditions we saw some season best scores! WinterStone must be Jeff Rader’s happy place as he started the 2024 season with a win here and shot a lights out 81 to take home the season championship! Kyle Wilson fought hard for 2nd place which netted him just enough points to take his first Player of the Year win!

Division 5 saw a familiar face at the top of the leaderboard. With a short hiatus from tournament play, Ethan Smith returned with a bang! Firing off his 2nd lowest score of the year, he took home the win, carding an 88 and blowing the rest of the field out of the water by 7 strokes! Even with the win it wasn’t enough to catch Cliff Austin Sr for the Player of the Year race. Congratulations to Ethan and Cliff on an outstanding season!
