APT Portland Kicks Off the Spring at Former Pro Tournament Venue

The Amateur Players Tour Portland visited the South Course at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club for their first tournament of 2026. The venue is no stranger to big events, as Oregon native and former PGA Pro Peter Jacobsen hosted the Fred Meyer Challenge here from 1998 to 2002, and The Tradition on the PGA Champions Tour followed from 2003 to 2006.

For an April day, conditions were solid across the board. No rain, temperatures in the 50s, and not much wind. But for top money-winner Paul Matis, conditions were perfect, as he brought home more than $300 thanks to a combination of Division and Skins wins.

    Division Breakdown

In Division 1Noah Neuschwanger took home the top prize and 300 Player of the Year points.

The aforementioned Paul Matis pulled off a come-from-behind win over Benjamin Ciobanu in Division 2. Ciobanu came out firing with a front-nine +1, but Matis made the par 5s count, birdieing all four, including the 18th hole to finish at +5, (77).

Jon Martinez ran away with Division 3, leading the field by five strokes with a +6, (78) that included 11 pars and a birdie.

Division 4 was another comeback story, as Robert Kivisto trailed Andrew Lano II by one at the turn. A smooth back nine 42 helped him secure first place, with the par 4s proving to be the difference as Kivisto played them four strokes better than Lano to win by three.

In the closest contest of the day at The Reserve, Eddie Flores came out on top in Division 5, despite a strong push from Trent Hobson. Flores set the tone early with two pars on the first five holes and built a lead Hobson couldn’t quite overcome.

On the Net side, Paul Matis led the field again with a –3 net score, finishing two clear of Niranjan Shrestha and Marcus Lowe in the Mid-Am Division. The par 5s once again proved crucial, as his four natural birdies all became net eagles.

The Senior Net Division was won by Jon Martinez, who narrowly defeated Robert Kivisto. Martinez stayed steady throughout the day and came on strong in the closing stretch, making net birdies on two of his last four.

    Top Money Winners

With an Elevated event, comes elevated payouts. Division leaders won the day, but there was also a surprise in the fourth spot courtesy of strong Division play and taking care of business in the Skins competition.

    • Paul Matis – $338 total (Division 2 and Mid-Amateur Net Champion, Four Skins, Two Super Skins)
    • Jon Martinez – $320 total (Division 3 and Senior Net Champion, One Closest to the Pin, Two Skins)
    • Robert Kivisto – $200 total (Division 4 Champion, Senior Net Runner-Up, One Skin)
    • Niranjan Shrestha – $110 total (Division 3 and Mid-Amateur Net Runner Up, Three Skins)

    Best of the Day

Another name all over the leaderboard was Marcus Lowe. With a Closest to the Pin, a Skin, and T-2 finish in Division 4, Lowe walked away with just under $80.

Cory Dobak put on a clinic on the front nine, making three birdies and adding another on the back for a total of four on the day.
