Denver 2026 Mile High Opening Championship at Todd Creek Golf Club Recap – May 9, 2026
The excitement surrounding the 2026 Mile High Opening Championship at Todd Creek Golf Club was evident from the moment players arrived at the course. The Mile High Denver Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour hosted a record-setting field of 100 players, including an impressive 19-player field in Division 1 alone. Players were greeted with beautiful blue skies, temperatures climbing into the mid-80’s, and near perfect Colorado spring golf weather.
Course conditions at Todd Creek were particularly good, especially considering the winter drought conditions experienced throughout the Denver area. Todd Creek management declared the course to be played with Preferred Lies in players’ own fairways. While the fairways and greens were in excellent shape, players consistently commented that the pin placements were extremely challenging on 10-12 holes, making scoring especially difficult throughout the day.
Late in the afternoon, the final groups in Division 5 experienced dramatically changing weather conditions as fierce winds and a microburst swept across the course. Although rain never developed, conditions became unplayable, forcing Division 5 to be shortened to a 14-hole tournament.
NOTABLES: The Todd Creek tournament was an Elevated Event featuring double prize pools and double Player of the Year points. Competition throughout the field was exceptionally strong as several players posted impressive scores despite the difficult pin positions.
Eagles were plentiful at Todd Creek as Trevor Glen scored 3 eagles on his front nine! Amazing. Not to be outdone, Rizzul Karki had one eagle as did Division 2 player Weston King and Matt Lewis in Division 3.
The Birdie parade list was long with 48 total birdies in the field. The leaders were Hendrik Orlowski with 5, followed by 3 birdies each for Karki, Colin Armistead, Nick Cable, Andrew Maier, and Division 4 player Jeff Fulkerson. 2 Birdies each were scored by David Berg, Eric Drucker, Isiah Ellison-Evans, Derek Howard, Matthew Tokunaga from the Las Vegas Chapter, Jorge Villegas, Chris Cannaverde, Brandon Foster, Chris Page, and Steve Brown. Addie Berube, the only woman in the Todd Creek field, made the list with a birdie also. Congratulations to everyone that scored a birdie.
Division 2 Player Hendrik Orlowski recorded one of the best rounds of the day, firing a stellar 70 (-2) to win Division 2 by an impressive eight strokes.
Division 1 featured perhaps the strongest field ever assembled for a Denver Chapter event. Rizzul Karki played steady golf throughout the day and captured the Division 1 title with a score of 73 (+1). Karki narrowly edged Jeremiah Stumpff and defending Denver Division Player of the Year Trevor Glen, who both finished one stroke back at 74 (+2).
DIVISION 1: With 19 players competing, Division 1 showcased some of the top talent in the Mile High Denver Chapter. Rizzul Karki’s front nine score of 35 helped propel him to victory and the first Elevated Event trophy of the season. Jeremiah Stumpff made a strong charge on the back nine with a 36 coming in to tie Trevor Glen for second place. Colin Armistead finished alone in 4th Place with a solid round of 75 (+3).
DIVISION 2: Hendrik Orlowski absolutely dominated Division 2 and separated himself from the field early. Orlowski fired matching rounds of 35 on both the front and back nine for a tremendous 70 (-2). His eight-stroke victory margin demonstrated just how impressive his round truly was given the difficult conditions and pin placements. Brett Miller and Weston King tied for second place with scores of 78 (+6).
DIVISION 3: Division 3 featured another tightly contested battle throughout the day. David Killinger captured the division title with a strong score of 82 (+10). Matt Gates and Harold Johnson both finished one stroke behind Killinger with scores of 83 (+11) to tie for second place prize money. Evan Wilking finished alone in fourth place with an 86 (+14).
DIVISION 4: Jeff Fulkerson played consistently throughout the day and captured the Division 4 title with a score of 84 (+12). Steve Brown continued his strong APT play by finishing second with an 86 (+14). Addie Berube rounded out the top three with a score of 88 (+16).
DIVISION 5: Division 5 players battled the most difficult weather conditions of the day as the final groups encountered intense winds and a microburst during the closing stretch of the tournament. Due to unplayable conditions, the tournament for Division 5 was officially shortened to 14 holes. Bill Gwinn and Andrew Wright tied for first place with scores of 75 (+19) over the shortened format. Andrew won the scorecard playoff and to capture the trophy. Michael Elder finished one stroke back in third place with a 76 (+20).
MID-AM NET: Hendrik Orlowski capped off his tremendous day by also winning the Mid-Am Net competition with an outstanding Net 66 (-6). Cole Mietzner finished second with a Net 70 (-2). Jeremiah Stumpff, Matthew Tokunaga from the Las Vegas Chapter, and David Killinger tied for third place with even par Net scores of 72.
CLOSEST TO THE PIN CONTEST: The new Closest to the Pin contests made their debut for the 2026 Denver APT season and added another exciting way for players to win money during the tournament. Andrew Maier won the CTP on Hole #7 with a shot to 6 feet, while Eric Drucker nearly aced Hole #17 with an incredible shot finishing just 3 feet 5 inches from the hole. Both players pocketed $100 for their winning shots. Kirk and Brenda Hulbert, Chapter Owners of the Mile High Denver Chapter, are funding the CTP contests for every Denver APT tournament this season. Every player in each tournament is automatically entered into the CTP contest.
DIVOT MAGAZINE SPONSORSHIP: Divot Magazine served as the official sponsor for the Todd Creek Elevated Event. Divot Magazine provided Green Saver books to one player in each foursome that volunteered to keep the APT live scoring during the tournament. It does PAY to keep the Live Scoring in Denver! In addition, all players received passes to Comedy Works courtesy of Divot Magazine.
FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: New APT member Harold Johnson was the winner of the Folds of Honor 50/50 raffle. Harold took home $280, while another $280 was donated directly to Folds of Honor.
