Amateur Players Tour of Florida – Southwest Tournament Recap

    Waterlefe Golf & River Club – July 11, 2026

On July 11, the Southwest Florida Chapter headed north to Waterlefe Golf & River Club in Bradenton.  We had 36 players sign up to take on the challenges of this difficult track.  Lots of forced carries with little room for error.   Highlights of the day included:

    • Division 1: In the top division, Gage Basiletti fired a sizzling -3 (33) on the front nine and jumped out to a 5-stroke lead over Daren Green, and six over Matt Ross and Dan Madsen.  Basiletti would stumble on the back and shoot 43 which opened the door for Matt Ross, who fired a +1 (37) on the very tough back nine, and the two were tied!  The course was still busy, so they had to go out to hole #8, a par 4, to start the playoff.  Basiletti hit his drive in the fairway, while Ross hit his left and just a foot in bounds!  From there, Ross knocked it to 10 feet where he would two-putt for par while Basiletti’s would also hit the green, but three-putted for bogey giving Ross the win!
    • Division 2: Here, we saw newcomer, Don Cabarle turn in a solid +2 (38) on the front and had a 3-stroke lead over Nick Westbrook, and 4 over Bob Hanneken.  On the back, Hanneken would make up 5 shots on Cabarle to move ahead of him.  However, Westbrook, who tripled the first hole, straightened things out and shot even par 36 on the back to win by 4 with a solid 77, his fourth victory in 5 events!
    • Division 3: This one got tight at the end!  On the front nine, Josh Acevedo jumped out to a 3 shot lead on Ben Heinking and Paul DiCaprio, with 4 others lurking just behind.  One of those, Nolan Elenz, turned in an impressive +4 (40) with two birdies!  He did double bogey the last to finish at 88.  Acevedo headed to 17 with a 3-shot lead.  Unfortunately, he would triple-bogey 17 and double the last hole, as did Elenz, and then ended regulation in a tie!!  The two headed to number 1 for a playoff, and both got off the tee fine, and in the end, Acevedo got the win with a bogey while Elenz took a triple.
    • Division 4: Manny Collins jumped out to the lead after nine with a +6 (42), but Jay Shockey was 2 behind while David Davis was 4 back.  Clay Metzger would get things going and carded a 45 on the back beating Collins by 3 shots!    However, it was a couple short of catching him and Manny got the win!
    • Division 5: In our final gross division, we saw Greg Gastfield take the lead after front with a 49 and a 1-shot lead over Dave Densieski and 2 over Jeromy Sigler.  Sigler would improve by 2 strokes on the back to 49, but it was not enough to catch Gastfield who improved on the back as well to a 48 and the 3-shot victory!
    • Mid-Am Net: 7 players decided to get in the mid-am net game, and after the front nine, Gage Basiletti’s -3 (33) was 2 shots better than Josh Acevedo, and 5 better than Jeromy Sigler and Nick Westbrook.  Sigler stayed consistent shooting a +1 37 on the back, but Westbrook fired a -3 (33) of his own on the back and took the 4-shot victory!
    • Senior Net: We had 13 players opt in for the senior net game.  Manny Collins carded an impressive -3 (33) on the front to take a 5-stroke lead!  Collins would fall back a little on the back with a 40 and a +1 (73), but it was enough to take the win by 4 over the second-place finisher, Greg Gastfield.

A huge thank you goes out to Mark Trotter and the entire staff at Waterlefe Golf & River Club for having the course in excellent shape for our event.

Our next event is at The Club at Gateway in Fort Myers, and it will be on Sunday, July 19.  Sign up now for your spot to play!  Registration closes on Tuesday, July 15!
