Amateur Players Tour of Florida – Southwest Tournament Recap 

Misty Creek Country Club – July 26, 2026 

The day started as a normal July day in southwest Florida, it was sunny, hot and humid as we began our second elevated event of the season!  Shortly after getting all groups on the course, the storms started and looked like they were heading our way, until they just magically dried up or moved to the west of us!  We dodged the rain all day and managed to get everyone safely through the round without any delays! Highlights of the day included: 

• Division 1: We got to see the top 4 points leaders in D1 square off!  Gage Basiletti once again jumped out to the early lead with an even par front nine, followed closely by Matt Ross (+1) and Pierson Gill (+3)!  With double points on the line, Basiletti looked to finish strong and increase his lead!  He would come back to the field a bit with a +3 on the back.  Gill was able to cut into Basiletti’s lead but could only manage to get one of the 3 shots he needed, and Basiletti took home the win, his second in a row and fourth of the FSW season!   

• Division 2: In this group, we had the top 7 points leaders show up to compete with several newcomers for the biggest division in the event!  Nick Westbrook (2^nd in points) took the co-lead with newcomer Don Cabarle after +3 on the front.  Right on their heels at +4 were Danny Magruder (current D2 points leader), Christian Hess, and Dylan Rich.  All of the chasers on the front stumbled on the back, and Westbrook took the win by 1 over Cabarle with +4 on the back for his 5^th win of the 2026 season!  That should allow Westbrook to leapfrog Magruder in the very tight standings coming into the last 4 events.   

• Division 3: Four of the top 7 in the D3 points race were competing for the elevated points!  After the front nine, Rick Kaczmarczyk was leading by 1 over Marcus Clifford and by 2 over current points leader, Josh Acevedo!  However, he would stumble a bit on the back, opening the door for Acevedo and Clifford!  Acevedo was not able to gain ground on Kaczmarczyk, but Clifford stormed back and overtook both players for his first win of the 2026 season!   

• Division 4: With the points leader in this division sitting out, the rest of the field looked to make up ground on him with the elevated event points!  Manny Collins continued his strong play on the front posting a 43 and taking a 3-shot lead on Mike Bushee (2^nd in points).  Collin hit a rough patch on the back while Bushee found his stride.  Bushee was able to catch and pass Collins for his first win in D4 of the 2026 season!  He’s right in the thick of things heading into the last 4 events of the summer!   

• Division 5: Greg Gastfield, the D5 points leader looked to add to his lead with the elevated event!  He jumped out to the lead after the front nine by 2 over Rusty Lingenfelter, Jackie Rush, and Jeromy Sigler!  Gastfield’s back was not as good as the front, but fortunately the chasers struggled even more than he did.  All except one!  Jay Powell found something on the back as he stormed back from 4 shots off the front nine lead to take his first ever, APT win!  Gastfield will maintain his lead in D5, but this win will help vault Powell up the leaderboard!   

• Mid-Am Net: We only had the top 5 leaders in points for the Mid-Am Net, playing this week and it was a shootout!  Three players, Gage Basiletti, Jeromy Sigler, and Nick Westbrook all shot even on the front, while the other 2 players were just 2 shots back!  Everyone struggled more on the back, and in the end, Nick Westbrook took home the 1-shot victory over Basiletti and his third win of the season!  The race at the top will get very interesting in the remaining events!   

• Senior Net: We had all but two of the top eight points getters looking to gain some extra points with the elevated status, and the scores showed!  There was a 4-way tie at -1 after the front nine, with two others just 1 back!  In the end, it was so close that we had a 4-way tie for second at +3 between Rusty Lingenfelter, Rick Kaczmarczyk, Jackie Rush, and Mike Bushee!  In the end, points leader, Greg Gastfield took home the win, his  second of the season! 

A huge thank you goes out to Chris Suchak and the entire staff at Misty Creek Country Club having the course in excellent shape and helping us to navigate the possible rain and storms!
