For players searching for Southwest Florida amateur golf tournaments or premier Fort Myers, Naples and Punta Gorda golf events, the Amateur Players Tour opened its 2027 Southwest Florida season on Saturday, October 3 at Aileron Golf Club in Lake Suzy, Florida. A field of 24 players made up the chapter’s first card of the new season, with the opening allotment of points on the line across five gross divisions and two net contests.

Aileron Golf Club measures out at a par 72 over its 18 holes, and the routing gave the field plenty to think about in both directions — a pair of par 5s on the outward half at the 3rd and the 7th, and three more opportunities coming home at the par-5 10th, the par-5 15th and the par-3 16th.

In Division 1, Davis Coss of Punta Gorda posted a 12-over 84 that was built almost entirely on the back nine. Coss made the turn in 9-over 45, then tightened the card considerably, coming home in 3-over 39 and playing the closing six holes in just 2 over par. Nine pars across the round gave the Punta Gorda man the platform for the title.

Division 2 produced the low round of the day and the tightest finish at the top of the board. Nick Westbrook of Cape Coral signed for a 4-over 76 to win by two, and he did it without a single double bogey on the card. Westbrook birdied the par-5 3rd on the way out to turn in 3-over 39, then added birdies at the par-3 13th and the par-5 15th to come home in 1-over 37, with the last six holes played in even par. Chason Rockymore of Nokomis looked every bit the spoiler early, going out in 1-under 35 with birdies at the 1st and the 9th, but the inward half ran away from him at 7-over 43 and he settled for a 6-over 78 in second. Chris Yoder was next on the day’s low-round list with a 79, and four players in the division finished within five shots of Westbrook.

Division 3 belonged to Marcus Clifford, who travelled down from Dunedin and returned a 13-over 85 for a four-shot win. Clifford birdied the par-4 2nd and the par-3 8th on his way to a 6-over 42 at the turn, came home in 7-over 43, and closed with three straight holes in even par to protect the margin. Mark Howard of Bonita Springs opened with a birdie at the 1st and had the better of the two front nines at 5-over 41, but a 12-over 48 inward half left him at 17-over 89 in second, which rounded out the money positions in the division. Behind them the division bunched up tightly, with a pair of players sharing 90 and four finishers inside five shots of the lead.

Division 4 went the way of Dan Wojcik of North Fort Myers, whose 13-over 85 was the product of patient, repetitive golf: nine bogeys, only two scores worse than that, and seven pars. Wojcik turned in 8-over 44, improved to 5-over 41 coming home, and played the final six holes in 2 over par. Andy Halek of Cape Coral finished in 2nd.

Division 5 came down to a single stroke. Quinton Allen of Estero was 13-over 49 at the turn and then found his footing, playing the inward nine in 8-over 44 for a 21-over 93 and the win. Jeromy Sigler of North Fort Myers pushed him all the way to the 18th green before signing for a 22-over 94, and three of the four finishers in the division ended the day within five shots of one another.

The Mid-Am Net contest gave Nick Westbrook the second half of a double on the day. His net even-par 72 was good for a two-shot win, which meant that the same card that produced the day’s low gross round also held up against the net field — a Division 2 title and a Mid-Am Net title from one trip around Aileron. Quinton Allen backed up his Division 5 win with a net 2-over 74 in second, giving the Estero man a busy afternoon on the scoreboard.

Senior Net delivered the lowest net figure anyone produced on Saturday. Dan Wojcik converted his 13-over 85 into a net 1-under 71, winning the contest by five and completing a double of his own alongside his Division 4 victory. Mark Howard was the only other senior inside five of him, posting a net 4-over 76 to take second after that early birdie at the 1st.

With that, the Southwest Florida chapter has its 2027 season underway, and the first points of the year are on the board — Westbrook and Wojcik both leaving Lake Suzy with two trophies each and an early say in the Player of the Year race. Thanks go to Aileron Golf Club for hosting the chapter’s opening stop of the season.
