The St. Louis, Kansas City, and Iowa Tri-State chapters converged this weekend for a joint event at the Lake of the Ozarks at the top-rated Old Kinderhook Resort. The course was a challenge for the players, featuring lush rough and fast undulating greens. 75 players teed it up for over $3,000 in prizes.
In Division 1, John Todd (STL) and Matt Borgmeyer (STL) led the day on Saturday, battling back and forth with Todd finishing with a 2-over par 73 and Borgmeyer finishing with a 3-over par 74. On Sunday, St. Louis points leader Kevin Erxleben (STL) shot the round of the weekend, firing a 1-over par 72 to force a playoff with John Todd. On the first hole of the playoff, John Todd prevailed to earn his first victory of the 2021 season. Nate McCutcheon (STL) finished in 3rd place, 3 strokes off the pace at 10-over 152.
In Division 2, Mike Lingenfelter (STL) and Gary Stockdall (KC) shot 78 and 79 respectively on Saturday to take an early lead on the field. On Sunday, Chris Turner (STL) led the charge from behind, using a weekend best 76 to overtake the field and earn a 2 shot victory over Dave Oleksa (STL), who used 2 solid rounds of 80-80-160 to take 2nd place honors. Mike Lingenfelter (STL) finished in 3rd with a 2-day total of 161 and Gary Stockdall (KC) finished in 4th place.
In Division 3, Tim Leonberger (STL) jumped out to an early lead on Saturday, firing an 82 to lead by one over Jason Stone (STL), who was in 2nd place with a 83. On Sunday, it came down to a battle on the back nine between Tim Leonberger (STL) and Kory Hannah (STL), who made a come from behind charge with the round of the weekend of 78. In the end, Hannah prevailed for a 2-shot victory with 85-78 163 over Leonberger, who finished 2 strokes behind. Ray Morales (STL) continued his solid play of 2021 with a 3rd place finish with 86-88-174, while Jason Stone (STL) finished with 83-92-175 and Peter Allen (STL) finished in 5th with a 91-85-176.
In Division 4, Matt Thorman (KC) jumped out to an early lead on Saturday, firing an 86 to take a 3-shot lead over Ryan Hohanshelt (IA). On Sunday, Hohanshelt shot an 85 to hold off a fierce challenge from Zach Terry (KC), who’s weekend best 83 was good enough for 2nd place, finishing 3 strokes behind champion Ryan Hohanshelt. Rick Johnson (STL) finished in solo 3rd with a two-day total of 180, while Allen Strausbaugh (KC), Steve Minder (STL), and Matt Thorman (KC) each tied for 4th with two-day totals of 181.
In Division 5, Paul Orovets (KC) set the early pace with a 92 to take a 6 shot lead going into Sunday’s 2nd round. Orovets followed up his great round Saturday with another great round Sunday of 93 to earn a 7-shot victory over Brian Mulchek (STL), whose 91 on Sunday was the best of the weekend. 3rd place went to Selena Droce (STL), who continued her good play of late with a 2-day total of 194. David Szczucinski (KC) finished in 4th place with a 2-day total of 195.
