The St. Louis chapter of the Amateur Players Tour kicked off it’s 4th season with its first ever senior only golf tournament at Tamarack Country Club in Shiloh, IL. Players would be faced with windy conditions, as the afternoon saw gusts between 30-40 mph at times. 65 players braved the elements for the first event, competing in 5 separate divisions for seniors aged 50 and over.
In Division 1, Greg Lewis of O’Fallon, MO made the most of his first start on the Amateur Players Tour, firing an 11-over par in really tough conditions to edge out John Todd by 2-strokes.
In Division 2, Billy Davis returned to the Winner’s Circle with a 7-over par 78 to edge out Iowa Tri-State’s Charlie Estabrook, who shot a 8-over par 79 to finish in 2nd place. Davis’ round included a birdie on his final hole to secure the victory! Kent Van Cleve, Mark Lamoureux, and 2021 Player of the Year Dave Adams finished tied for 3rd with rounds of 80.
In Division 3, Jeff Van Zee made the most of his rookie debut, firing a +13 round of 84 to earn a one shot victory over a stacked field of Jason Stone, Brian Koch, Simay Souvannarath, and Mary Kolda who all finished one-stroke back with rounds of 85. Michael Konuch finished in solo 6th with a round of 87.
In Division 4, the day belonged to Steve Middendorf from St. Charles, MO. Fresh off of his 3rd place Senior Net Finish at TPC San Antonio, Steve played a great round, firing a 13-over par round of 84 to secure a 5-shot victory over tour rookie David King of Belleville, IL. Rick Johnson finished in 3rd place with a round of 92.
In Division 5, the battle was back and forth all day as 3-shots separated the top 3 finishers. Chris Brockmeyer of St. Charles, MO shot a +27 98 in tough conditions to earn the victory over Jerry Miller, who finished in 2nd place with a 99. Roger Eberlein came in 3rd with a round of 100.
From here, the St. Louis Senior Chapter will hold its next event at WingHaven Country Club on Monday, April 25th. This will be the first opportunity for Seniors to Double-Dip, meaning they can play in both the open and the senior field for an additional $30, to be paid at check-in the day of.
