On April 10th,2022 the Iowa Tri-state chapter held their second sold-out event of the season at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy Illinois! The weather started out chilly and windy but warmed up as the day went on. The wind stayed and had some strong gusts that made the course even more challenging. The tournament started off smoothly and ended with a bang! We had two course playoffs for division 3 and 5 to make the day even more exciting!
Division one had a field of 9 players. Adam Pfeiffer won the division with a score of 73. Beating Brandon Estabrook and Lucas Kane by 4 strokes. Second place came down to a score card play off leaving Brandon Estabrook the victor.
In Division 2 we had some close scores as well. Allen Moore won first place by merely one stroke (84) over Darryl Johnson and Andrew Smith(85). Moore took the lead on #18 after missing a hole in one inch leaving him a tap in birdie to take the one stroke lead. We had another score card playoff to determine second place, Darryl Johnson came out on top.
Division 3 was full of excitement with Scott Riley coming into #18 with a 1 stroke lead. Riley bogeyed the hole, thus causing a tie for first place. This would lead to our first on course play off the young season between Scott Riley and Chase Estabrook with scores of 82. With several spectators following, the players proceeded to the first tee to battle it out! Riley teed off first, hitting his drive on the left side of the fairway behind some trees. Estabrook went next and hit a nice drive down the middle of the fairway with a wide-open view of the green. Riley had to punch his second shot into the middle of the fairway to have a shot at the green. Estabrook’s second shot went into the creek in front of the green causing him to drop 3 and hit his 4th shot on the green. Riley hit his 3rd shot to about 10 ft below the hole. Estabrook 2 putted for a double bogey and Riley was able to two putt for a bogey for the win!
Division 4 had a field of 7 players. Nick Louderback crushed his competition with a score of 84. Ryan Hohanshelt came in second place with a score of 93, beating Luke Mudd by one stroke.
Division 5 was our largest field with a total of 15 players. This division also had a on course play off to determine first place! It came down to Scott Brenton and Barney Kahn with scores of 87. After waiting for division 3 play off players to tee off, Kahn stepped up and a nice shot down the middle of the fairway. Brenton’s tee shot was a direct line to the green, clearing the pond by two feet. Leaving his ball directly behind a tree, blocking the green. Kahn laid up his second shot just short of the creek. Kahn’s third shot over the creek and onto the green, he proceeded to two putt for a bogey. Brenton had to punch around the tree and over the bunker. His ball went a couple feet past the green. He hit his third shot out of the rough with his putter leaving his ball 4 feet past the hole. He was then able to make his putt for par to secure his victory. With this being our largest division, we were able to pay out third place as well. Mr. Bob Witt was our third-place winner with a score of 92.
It ended up being an exciting and fun day for golf at Spring Lake Country Club! We want to congratulate all the winners and thank all the players for their continued support!
