Tournament Champions
The APT St. Louis Chapter kicked off the 2025 season with a fall wrap-around event at Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington, MO. 86 players teed it up in a SOLD OUT field to kick off the fall season, with players enjoying beautiful weather and a course that was in great shape. Playing firm and fast, players were able to take advantage of some great scoring conditions and scores would reflect the great scoring conditions on a beautiful Sunday in October.
In Division 1, extra holes would be needed as Memphis’ Ed McDugle, John Todd, and Michael Clark each finished with 1-over par rounds of 73 to force a 3-way playoff. On the first extra hole, the par-5 1st, GlobalGolf.com National Senior Player of the Year John Todd and Ed McDugle both rolled in birdie putts on the first hole, which eliminated Michael Clark with a par. The dogleg-left par-4 2nd can prove to be a tricky one, but John Todd made a par to earn the victory. Todd also won the senior division with his playoff win.
In Division 2, Bob Manville rode a hot putter for his first event on the Amateur Players Tour. Manville seemed to make everything he looked at, making 5 birdies en-route to an impressive 2-over par 74. The tournament was much closer than it looked, with Jason Ulrich providing chase all day until a late stumble that ended with a 79 and a 2nd place finish. Christian Benavides and Josh DeJarnette got off to a good start with their 2025 campaigns with rounds of 80 to finish T3, and Mark Ralph rounded out the top-5 with an 81. Manville completed the double-dip with his impressive 74, with Ulrich coming in solo 2nd.
In Division 3, Schooner Fitzgerald got off to a hot start with an impressive 37 on the front nine that featured 2 birdies, and he rode that to a 77 and a 5 shot win over Tim Leonberger, John Schranck, and Gary Orf, who finished in a tie for 2nd with 82. 5th place honors went to Kyle Kucharski (Memphis), Darrell Vankygrifka, Donald Chase and Chris Turner who each shot 84. On the senior side, Schooner Fitzgerald completed the double-dip with Leonberger, Schranck, and Orf coming in a tie for 2nd place.
In Division 4, Dave Draucker returned to the Autohaus BMW Winners Circle with an 87 that earned him a 2-shot victory over Allen Starnes, Stevie Frank, Jim Nichols, John Abercrombie, and Thomas Agnew who each finished with rounds of 89. Draucker would complete the double-dip with a 2-shot victory.
In Division 5, Mark Galentine got the 2025 campaign started on the right foot with an impressive 88 that featured a birdie on 18 to close out the victory over Roger Eberlein, who finished in solo 2nd with a 91. Jesse Cook, Bill McMahan and Robert Rosenbaum each finished in a tie for 3rd with 93. On the senior side, Mark Galentine completed the double dip with his 88, followed by Roger Eberlein with 91. Bill McMahan and Robert Rosenbaum shot 93 to finish in a tie for 3rd.
New for 2025, Open Net will have a Player of The Year Award, and 24 players competed in the Open Net division, where players each get 90% of their validated APT Index. Schooner Fitzgerald took home the Open Net title with an impressive 5-under par net round of 67. John Schranck came in solo 2nd with a 4-under 68, while Michael Clark and Ed McDugle each shot 1-under rounds of 71. To finish in a tie for 3rd. Of the 24 players, there were 6 rounds of even or better. From here, the St. Louis chapter moves to the newly renovated Far Oaks Golf Club, which underwent a complete bunker renovation last year. The course is in great shape for our event on Sunday, October 27th which will conclude the fall wraparound season in St. Louis.
