The St. Louis chapter of the Amateur Players Tour headed to the historic Norwood Hills Country Club West Course for it’s first elevated event of the 2024 season, a one-day 36-hole event around one of the best courses in St. Louis.  Ben Hogan won the 1948 PGA Championship here in style, winning his final match 7&6.  The West Course is also home of the yearly Ascension Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions, which is held each September in St. Louis.  The weather was absolutely perfect – with fast greens, firm fairways, and some low scores.  Meridian Contracting added $1,000 to the prize pool for the first elevated event of the season, where players were competing for over $7,200 in prizes paid in VISA Gift Cards.

In Division 1, Ryan Eckelcamp continued his return to form of the 2023 season firing consecutive rounds of 1-under and 1-under to finish at 2-under par and earn a 8 shot victory over John Todd and Michael Flynn who finished 8 shots back with a 36-hole total of 6-over par.  Michael Clark finished in 4th place at +11.  On the senior side, John Todd returned to the winners circle, powered by a first-round even par round to finish at +6 and beat Michael Clark by 5 shots.

In Division 2, Scott Horton continued his hot streak, earning a 5-shot victory at +8 over Mike Mervis, who finished in solo 2nd place at +13.  Horton was propelled by an extremely hot putter in Round 1 that led to a stellar 1-over par finish.  3rd position went to Josh DeJarnette at +15, while Greg Miller rounded out the money in 4th place at +19.  Michael Konuch and Bill Stuart finished tied for 5th at +20.  On the senior side, Scott Horton completed the double dip, besting Mike Mervis by 5 shots for the 36 hole total.

In Division 3, the tournament came down to the wire in the most competitive division of the day. 6 players finished the 36-hole event within 4 shots of the lead.  Dave Verhulst (+25) prevailed, coming from behind late to edge Mark Ralph (+27) by 2 shots.  Haris Habibovic and Christian Benavides continued their solid play, finishing 3 shots off the pace in a tie for 3rd at 28 over par for the 36 hole event.  Mike Paubel and Tony Arcese rounded out the money in a tie for 5th at 29-over par.  On the senior side, Dave Verhulst completed the double-dip, besting Mark Ralph who finished in solo 2nd place.  Jeff Morgan had a solid finish, with a 36-hole total of 28-over par to finish in 3rd place.

In Division 4, Jerry Anderson went back-to-back after a solid performance at Sunset Hills Country Club to earn the win at Norwood Hils CC, shooting an 85 in round 2 to earn a 4-shot victory at +32.  Jason Thuet finished in solo 2nd at +36, while Matt Hall rounded out the top-3 with a solid +37 finish.  Steve Minder and Mike Scalera made the money in a tie for 4th place at +38.  On the senior side, Jerry Anderson completed the double-dip with a 5-shot victory over Matt Hall, who added another solid finish to his tournament resume on the APT.

In Division 5, Brian Jennison earned his first victory on tour, shooting +47 over the 36 hole event to earn a 4-shot victory over Selena Droce and Roger Eberlein, who finished tied for 2nd at 51-over par.  On the senior side, Roger Eberlein returned to the winners circle, earning a 7-shot victory over Byron Whitlock, who finished 7 shots back at 58-over par.

Up next for the St. Louis chapter is a return to Tamarack Country Club on Saturday, May 11th.  Tee times will be a morning double tee and the field will be capped at 120 players for this event.  Only 13 spots remain for this event before it sells out, so sign up early to guarantee your spot!
