MILE HIGH DENVER CHAPTER OF THE AMATEUR PLAYERS TOUR

Fox Hollow Golf Course Tournament Recap-August 31, 2025

Fox Hollow SOLD OUT all available player spots and the course was able to accommodate a few extra players! A perfect weather day was in-store for the full field on this late summer morning. Setup began early at 6:30 am with cool temperatures hovering around 55 degrees. The sky was a deep blue with no clouds, and the weather held all day long with high temperatures reaching the high 70s. It was a great treat for the players, staff and golf course personnel. The Mile High Denver Chapter welcomed 7 future APT members plus a handful of first time APT members to play at Fox Hollow.

NOTABLES: The Denver Chapter was pleased to announce our first Division 2 Lady to the field. Audrey Rosen, a student in the PGA Management Department at UCCS played in her first APT tournament. Audrey touts an ~7 handicap index and she played to her handicap and maybe a little better.

Joel Kuntzman, Division 2 player, made an eagle 3 on the Par 5 hole #17 (Meadows course hole #8). Joel reached the green in two shots and made the ~25’ putt to score his eagle. Congratulations Joel!

Tough first 9 holes played by the field was a theme of the day as well. Numerous players got off to a slow start but made-up lots of ground in their final 9 holes. Every division also scored birdies which made the Skins and Super Skins remarkably interesting.

DIVISION 1: Division 1 had a strong field for the tournament although not as many participants as normal. Competition was keen with two players “nearly matching” each other’s scores on every hole played. Needless to say, a playoff was in the making. True to the predictions, Nick Visocky and Dustin Williamson, winner of the APT Murphy Creek tournament, tied for first place with scores of 72 (+1). It appeared that Nick and Dustin “enjoyed” the extra, free holes of golf. Nick had the advantage on the first 2 holes with Dustin’s drive into the long, knee-high grass on the first hole of the Canyons course and his approach shot on the second hole spinning backwards off the green. However, his chip shot on #1 nearly went in the hole. Dustin narrowly missed his par putt, so the playoff continued. After tying the second playoff hole, the match was won by Visocky with a bogey 5 after finding the green side bunker, while Williamson’s approach from the left rough sailed the green into the long, knee-high grass. Congratulations to both players for their 3-hole playoff, the longest one for the Denver Chapter, with Nick Visocky winning 1st place and the trophy. Talyn Haskell came in 3rd with a score of 75.

DIVISION 2: Dave Decker shot an extraordinarily strong D2 score of 72 (+1) to win first place winnings and the trophy. Dave scored 4 birdies during his round, and his score would have been much better without the triple bogey on #2. Decker finished strong with 3 straight birdies on his 11th, 12th, and 13th hole PLUS he birdied the long, uphill $2500 hole in one hole #8. Gary Wayne was looking for another first-place finish but finished in 2nd place with a 74. Audrey Rosen, mentioned earlier, shot a very respectable 75 (+4) to tie with Joel Kuntzman (scored the eagle) to split 3rd place winnings. Future Denver APT member, moving from Dallas, genuinely enjoyed the high-altitude golf with thin air and no humidity, to shoot 76 and was 1 stroke out of the money.

DIVISION 3: Aaron Skiles continues his late summer hot streak to win Division 3 and was the winner again in Denver’s APT D3. Skiles shot a nice 77 (+6) score to win the division. Ethan Andrews played probably his best APT tournament of the 2025 season to win second place with a score of 80. Matt and Matt (Donnelly and Page) tied for 3rd place with scores of 82. Nice going with great competition in this Division. Skiles win added to his previous wins on the APT make it difficult to catch him for Denver Player of the Year in D3. First time player Alex Bruce ended one stroke out of the money.

DIVISION 4: This Division had a fantastic competitive day with the winner coming down to 3 players, Ryan Gentry (promoted from D5 earlier in the season), Brandon Foster, and Trent McQueen, all previous Denver APT winners. Gentry separated himself from the pack, scored a career-best score of 79 (+8) to win the 1st place money and trophy. Foster had a fantastic beginning to his round and scored 82 to win 2nd place. McQueen won 3rd place with a score of 83 to win money. This division will have a close and highly competitive Finals tournament      to determine the POY.

DIVISION 5: Previous APT winner Brandon Jansson played very well and shot 89 to win Division 5 winnings and the trophy. Following closely behind, Ray Lopez (not the famous actor) gave Jansson a run for the money to finish in 2nd place by shooting 91. Former winner Ryan Shephard shot 92 to miss out on the money winnings by 1 stroke.  However, Ryan did birdie hole #11 (Meadows #2) to knock out the Chapter Owner of a skin! Nice going Ryan. This Division will have fierce competition for the Player of the Year Award at the Denver Finals at Raccoon Creek to see who if anyone, can overtake Brandon. Unfortunately, for Brandon, the door is wide open as he is unable to play in the final tournament.

OPEN NET: 15 players entered the Open Net competition with Aaron Skiles’ gross score of 77 being too good to match in the net competition. Aaron net score of 68 (-3) won him the trophy and 1st place winnings. Joel Kuntzman had an even par score of 71 to win 2nd place earnings while Evan Wilking had a +1 over par net score of 72.

SENIOR NET: Dave Decker had a 2 under par net score of 69 to win the Senior Net trophy and winnings. His 1st place finish was only 1 stroke better than Matt Page’s net score of 70 (-1). The competition in the Senior Net Final tournament at Raccoon Creek is very tight and close with ~14 players within striking distance of earning National Exemptions by finishing in the Top 10 for 2025.

FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: Joel Kuntzman was the winner of the 50/50 Raffle winning $82 with a contribution of $83 going to Folds of Honor.
