Tournament Champions
The Upstate Amateur Players Tour hosted its final tournament of the 2025 season, traveling to Willow Creek Golf Club for the Local Final Championship, while also recognizing the season-long points winners for each division.
The tour has been wide open over the past year, hosting tournament across the Upstate of South Carolina and portions of North Carolina as well, with competitors vying each week for cash and VISA gift card prizes, while also accumulating points in hopes of capturing Player of the Year honors.
Following Saturday’s tournament, the tour recognized its players of the year, giving each of them a $1,000 prize package including a Vessel backpack and golf bag, a SWAG headcover, and membership for the upcoming 2026 season.
Saturday, golfers enjoyed Willow Creek Golf Club located in Greer, SC, just between Greenville and Spartanburg. Designed by noted course architect Tom Jackson Willow Creek provides a fun, player-friendly experience for beginners while advanced players will enjoy numerous risk-reward opportunities that are sure to provide an exciting, memorable golf experience.
Here’s a breakdown of the results by division, along with the players of the year:
Division 1 – Rodric Overholt made it a day to remember, carding a three-under par round of 69 to win Division 1 while also capturing Player of the Year honors. Overholt birdied two out of his first three holes as he shot two-under on the opening nine. The Abbeville, SC native record three more birdies on the back nine, playing his final five holes in two under par to win by three strokes.
Jody Clary’s steady day led to a round of 72, even par. The Shelby, NC native made three birdies on the day, including two on the back nine to shoot one-under par on the inward stretch.
TJ Hines finished third with a round of 74, highlighted by a birdie on the par-four sixth hole. Hines made nine consecutive pars on the back nine to close his round. Jordan Windish rounded out the top five in the division with a round of 85.
Division 2 – Nine golfers finished within four shots of the winner, as a playoff was needed between Zack Boyd and Dan Eastep, as both players posted rounds of 76. In the end, it was Boyd who emerged victorious.
Boyd overcame a tough start on the front nine, making birdie on the par-four eighth hole to settle into his round. The Inman, SC native continued his climb up the leaderboard on the back nine, making consecutive birdies en route to a round of one-under par on the back.
Dan Eastep jumped out to an early advantage, birding the first hole as he shot even par on the front nine. The Green Mountain, NC native moved back to one-under par with a birdie on the par-four 11th hole as he shot 40 on the closing nine.
Chris Kemp just missed out on the playoff, finishing third with a round of 77. Kemp’s steady day included 14 pars during his round. Chris Lombardozzi, JB Anderson, and Adam Moore rounded out the top five in the division in a tie for fourth place with rounds of 78.
With his stellar play Saturday, and throughout the season, Zack Boyd was named the 2025 Player of the Year for Division 2.
Senior Division 2 – While Dan Estep came up just short of the top spot in Division 2 with his round of 76, the Green Mountain, NC native did capture the victory in Senior Division 2. Eastep birdied the first hole as he shot even par on the front nine. Another birdie came on the par-four 11th before playing his final four holes in just two-over par.
JB Anderson finished second with a round of 78, two strokes behind Eastep. Anderson played his best golf on the back nine, playing the first seven holes of the closing stretch in even par with a birdie on the par-five 15th hole.
Wayne Blyler finished third with a round of 83, as Carlos Mojica rounded out the division in fourth place with a round of 84.
Along with the tournament title Saturday, Dan Eastep walked away as Senior Division 2 Player of the Year.
Division 3 – Ronnie Strange outlasted a crowded field of challengers, carding a round of 80 to win by just one stroke Saturday. Strange buckled down on the back nine, making seven pars, including five in a row to close the round.
William Buie finished second, posting a round of 81. The Easley, SC native attempted to draw even with Strange, playing his final three holes in even par – highlighted by a birdie on the par-five closing hole.
Mark Lytle shot 82 to finish third while leading the division in birdies with two on the day. After a tough start to the back nine, Lytle played his final six holes in one-under par, making two birdies in his final three holes.
Darrius Prysock finished fourth with a round of 83, followed by Daniel Shelbo and Andrew Gray in a tie for fifth place with rounds of 84.
Cody Markovich won Player of the Year honors, capturing the season-long points title.
Senior Division 3 – Ronnie Strange made it a clean sweep of the weekend as his round of 80 was also enough to win Senior Division 3. Strange shot 41 on the front nine before finding his groove on the back. Strange pared all but two holes on the back nine, securing a one-stroke victory.
William Buie finished second with a round of 81. Buie kept his scorecard rather clean on the front nine, making six pars to place himself in contention. The Easley, SC native came up just a shot short, though he birdied the par-five 18th hole during his late charge.
Mark Lytle came up short of the top spot, though he wasn’t disappointed as his third-place finish with a round of 82 secured him the Senior Division 3 Player of the Year honors. Lytle made two back nine birdies, taking advantage of the 16th and 18th holes.
Darrius Prysock finished fourth, followed by Daniel Shelbo in fifth with rounds of 83 and 84, respectively.
Division 4 – Eighteen holes of golf proved not to be enough as David Croston and Billy Trull found themselves tied with rounds of 83. Once the dust settled in the playoff, Croston claimed the victory. Croston shot 40 on the front nine, including five pars. His back nine was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four 14th hole, proving to be the difference in making the playoff.
Trull played his best golf on the front nine, grabbing the lead with a birdie on the par-four sixth hole to move to one over par. Trull made two pars on the back, including one on the par-five closing hole.
Scott Bryant finished third with a round of 86. Bryant pared three out of his first four holes on the back nine en route to a round of 43. Ryan Riffle, Bruce Hutchinson, and Peter Fahey finished tied for fourth place with rounds of 87.
For his consistent play throughout the 2025 season, Robert Gibson was named the Player of the Year for Division 4.
Senior Division 4 – The same battle played out in Senior Division 4 as David Croston and Billy Trull were tied with rounds of 83 after Saturday’s round. Croston claimed the victory in the playoff, securing the tournament title as well as Player of the Year honors for Senior Division 4. Croston’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four 14th hole.
Trull finished second after the playoff, recording six pars and a birdie during his round. Trull shot 40 on the front nine, which included his birdie on the par-four sixth hole.
Scott Bryant finished third with a round of 86. The Pickens, SC native attempted to make a back nine charge, making five pars, including three in his first four holes.
Bruce Hutchinson and Peter Fahey finished tied for fourth place with rounds of 87.
Division 5 – Fred Block was the class of the field in Division 5 as the Campobello, SC native carded a round of 85 to win by seven on Saturday. Block carded a round of 43 on the front nine before finding his groove with five pars on the back nine. Block pared his first three holes of the closing stretch, increasing his lead over the field.
Michael McGill and Deno Contos finished tied for second place with rounds of 92. McGill made two pars on the back nine as Contos had two on the inward stretch.
Vern Verna and Gene Mason finished tied for fourth place with rounds of 93. Verna made five pars in his final seven holes during his round. Mason’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four ninth hole.
Bill Turner finished sixth with a round of 94, securing his title of Player of the Year for Division 5, winning the season-long points race.
Senior Division 5 – Fred Block made it a clean sweep of the weekend as his round of 85 was enough to also claim the top spot in Senior Division 5. Block saved his best golf for the back nine, making five pars on the closing stretch.
Vern Verna and Gene Mason tied for second place with rounds of 93. Verna made five of his six pars on the back nine, posting a 44 on the back. Mason made birdie on the par-four ninth hole to shoot 44 on the front nine.
Bill Turner finished fourth with a round of 94, followed by Hoyt Mullins in fifth place with a round of 95.
Dick Jenkins won Player of the Year honors for Senior Division 5 for his consistent play throughout the season.
