Tournament Champions
Clear skies and a slight breeze blowing off Lake Guntersville created a perfect setting for tournament golf this past weekend at the Lake Course at Goose Pond Colony Resort. And as always when the Birmingham and Nashville chapters come together, the competition delivered across every division.
Division 1 saw Nashville standout Matt Mitchell continue his impressive season with a steady 2-under par 70, highlighted by four birdies on the day. The victory marks Mitchell’s fifth win of the 2026 season and further solidifies his strong campaign.
Division 2 needed extra holes to decide a winner after Birmingham chapter members Joseph Lacy, Lucas McCullar, and John Bean all finished tied at 76. Bean was eliminated after the first playoff hole, but Lacy and McCullar continued battling for three more holes before Lacy finally secured the victory. The win is Lacy’s first of the 2026 season.
Division 3 brought more playoff drama as Birmingham veterans Greg Mason and David Sides both posted rounds of 80. Mason wasted little time in the playoff, securing the victory on the very first extra hole. The win gives Mason back-to-back victories as he continues his strong stretch of golf.
Division 4 belonged to Wade Williams of the Nashville chapter, who fired a strong round of 78 to earn his first career APT victory. Williams also completed the double dip on the day by capturing the Senior Net title as well.
Division 5 made sure the playoff trend continued. Birmingham members Todd Gober and Leon Goodson both finished tied at 88, forcing another sudden-death playoff. After two extra holes, Gober came away with the win — his second consecutive victory. But perhaps even more meaningful was what came after. Todd’s recent strong play has now lowered his index enough to earn a promotion to Division 4 beginning at the next event. Congratulations to Todd for both the victory and the hard work paying off.
In the Mid-Am Net division, Nashville member Kevin Smith found his form again and picked up his first victory of the season.
Thank you to everyone who competed at Goose Pond Colony Resort. We look forward to seeing everyone back out at Eagle’s Nest Golf Course on May 30 for another great day of competition.
