Legacy Ridge Golf Course Tournament Recap

Saturday, June 27, 2026The Mile High Denver Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour returned to Legacy Ridge Golf Course on Saturday, June 27, for another outstanding tournament that once again demonstrated the incredible enthusiasm of our membership. The event sold out well in advance, and as players teed off there were still seven golfers patiently waiting on the waitlist, hoping an opening would become available.Players were greeted with classic Colorado summer weather. Bright blue skies, abundant sunshine, and temperatures climbing into the mid-90s made for a warm day on the course. Just before the opening tee shots, a persistent breeze began to pick up and remained throughout the round. As several players jokingly commented, “It seemed like we were hitting into the wind on all 18 holes!” Despite the challenging conditions, the field produced another day of outstanding golf. The Mile High Denver Chapter’s Eagle Parade continued at Legacy Ridge as Addie Berube thrilled the field with a spectacular eagle on the 300-yard, par-5 11th hole. After hitting a terrific drive that finished approximately 40 yards short of the green, Addie played a beautiful chip that settled about eight feet from the cup before confidently rolling in the putt for eagle. Congratulations, Addie, on another memorable accomplishment!Birdies continued to light up the scorecards throughout the day, with every division contributing to another impressive birdie total. Leading the way was Dale Syta, who recorded an outstanding five birdiesRizzul Karki, Jeremy Minnick, and Dan Gabriels scored 4 birdies each followed by Gary Wayne and Matt Gates both making 3 birdies. A lengthy list of players each had 2 birdies on the day that included Brent Aga, Trevor Glen, Jade Roberts, Tyler Tetrault, Hendrik Orlowski, Will Hallmark, Adam Hirsch, Vern Rubick, Steve Brown, Cole Mietzner, and Brandon Jansson. Congratulations!Division 1 produced the lowest score of the tournament as Dale Syta fired a superb 3-under-par 69 to capture the championship. Trevor Glen, 2025 Denver Player of the Year in Division 1, tied Rizzul Karki for second place by shooting 74. The POY competition for this Division will be extremely exciting up to the local finals!Division 2 champion Gary Wayne continued his consistent play with a winning score of 74. Former winner on the Denver APT Tour, Wayne was steady all day to finish his winning round. New member of the Denver Chapter, Dan Gabriels, provided excellent competition for the Division and finished in second place with an impressive first APT tournament round of 76,Division 3 featured one of the day’s closest battles as Matt Gates, Ethan Bond, and Vern Rubick all finished tied at 82, with Gates earning the championship following a scorecard playoff. Unfortunately, the course could not accommodate an on-course playoff, so Gates was determined the winner as the “last 9 holes” scores still ended in a tie. Gates won by 1 stroke in the comparison of the “last 6 holes” score. Bond and Rubick split to 2nd place money. Also winning prize money in Division 3 were Mack Mitchell and Will Hallmark who tied for 4th place only 1 stroke out of the playoff with scores of 83.Division 4 saw Steve Brown claimed the title with an excellent Division 4 score of 84. The excitement and keen competition in D4 were enhanced with long-time close friends Addie Berube challenging Brown the entire day. Berube missed the tie for first place by only 1 stroke shooting an impressive 85. Jade Simmons took third place with his score of 86. Division 5, Brandon Jansson, 2025 D5 Denver Player of the Year, rounded out the division champions by earning the Division 5 title with a solid round of 89. Jansson, a multi-winner on the Denver APT Tour, battled Mike Elder, also a multi-winner on the APT Tour locally and nationally, all day long to beat Elder by 1 stroke. Third place was won by Bob Aamodt who ended the day shooting 93.Congratulations to all of our division champions:
