Willis Case Golf Course Elevated Event Recap

What a spectacular Colorado morning greeted the Mile High Denver Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour for Saturday’s Elevated Event at Willis Case Golf Course.
Bright, clear blue skies provided players with one of the special bonuses of playing Willis Case—the fantastic view from the #1 tee box overlooking the vast Rocky Mountains, Berkeley Park and Lake, and historic Lakeside Amusement Park. It is truly one of the most unique opening-tee views on the Denver APT schedule.
The beautiful setting was matched by outstanding competition. As an APT Elevated Event, both the Prize Pool and Player of the Year Points were doubled, adding even more importance to every shot as the 2026 season heads toward its conclusion.
Competition was keen throughout all five Divisions as well as the Mid-Am Net and Senior Net competitions, and the day produced everything from a Hole in One and another eagle to two on-course playoffs and an impressive collection of birdies.
NOTABLES
The biggest shot of the day came very early in the round.
Trevor Glen, the 2025 Denver Division 1 Player of the Year, recorded the first Hole in One of his golfing career on Hole #4!
Playing the 149-yard par 3, Glen selected his 50-degree wedge and knocked his tee shot into the cup for the ACE.
Making the accomplishment even more remarkable, Trevor’s Hole in One was the second ace recorded during Denver APT competition in the same week!
Congratulations, Trevor, on an accomplishment you will remember forever!
The Denver Chapter’s remarkable Eagle streak also continued at Willis Case and is now approaching 10 consecutive tournaments with someone recording an eagle.
Division 1 player Jeremy Minnick kept the streak alive when he holed his second shot from approximately 75 yards on Hole #8 for an eagle 2.
Minnick’s eagle came in the middle of an incredible three-hole stretch. He birdied #7, eagled #8 and followed it with another birdie on #9—playing those three holes in an amazing 4-under par.
What a stretch of golf!
Birdies were plentiful throughout the field, and once again all five Divisions contributed to the birdie total.
Leading everyone was Colin Armistead with an outstanding eight birdies during his spectacular round.
Warren Colaric, Kevin Moore, Jeremy Minnick and Skylar Mitchell, who was playing in his first Denver APT event, each recorded four birdies.
Hendrik Orlowski, Gary Wayne, Philip Camillo, Jade Roberts, Jack Wallin, and Ethan Andrews each added three birdies.
Consistency was also on display throughout the field, as 17 different players recorded par or better on at least nine holes during the day.
DIVISION 1
Colin Armistead put together the round of the tournament, firing an outstanding 64 (-6) to capture the Division 1 championship.
Armistead went out in 33 and then was even better on the back nine, coming home in 31. His eight birdies led the entire tournament field and helped him build a five-stroke victory margin.
Philip Camillo also broke par with an excellent round of 69 (-1) to finish second, while Jeremy Minnick used his memorable birdie-eagle-birdie stretch to shoot 70 (Even) and finish third.
It was an exceptional display of golf at the top of Division 1.
DIVISION 2
Division 2 produced another tightly contested race.
Gary Wayne captured the Division 2 trophy after rounds of 37 and 35 gave him a final score of 72 (+2).
Hendrik Orlowski was right behind with a 73 (+3), finishing only one stroke back, while Kevin Moore remained in contention throughout the day and finished third at 74 (+4).
Only two strokes separated the top three players in a highly competitive Division 2 battle.
DIVISION 3
Division 3 provided one of the most exciting finishes of the day as Skylar Mitchell and Scott Rowley finished regulation play tied at 77 (+7) after 18 holes.
Fortunately, Willis Case graciously allowed the pair to settle the championship where it should be decided—on the golf course.
The sudden-death playoff began on Hole #1, and the early advantage appeared to favor Rowley. However, an agonizing lip-out on his putt opened the door for Mitchell.
With a must-make opportunity to claim the championship, Skylar stepped up and drained the putt to win the playoff and the Division 3 title!
What a way for Mitchell to make his introduction to Denver APT competition. Playing in his first Denver Chapter event, Skylar recorded four birdies, shot 77 and then managed the pressure of an on-course playoff to take home the trophy and first-place prize money.
Rowley earned second-place honors after his excellent round of 77, while Mike Foxhoven finished only one stroke behind the leaders with a 78 (+8) to take third.
DIVISION 4
If one on-course playoff was not enough excitement, Division 4 gave us another one!
Cole Mietzner and William “Bill” Boortz both completed 18 holes with scores of 81 (+11), leaving the Division 4 championship deadlocked.
Initially, it appeared the winner might have to be determined by a scorecard playoff. Instead, Willis Case once again graciously accommodated the APT and allowed Mietzner and Boortz to head back onto the course for the tournament’s second sudden-death playoff of the day.
Beginning on Hole #10, the two players battled for three additional holes before the championship was finally decided.
On the third playoff hole, Boortz nearly ended it himself, but his birdie putt from the fringe agonizingly lipped out.
Mietzner had reached the green with an opportunity for eagle. His eagle attempt finished approximately two feet from the cup, and Cole calmly converted the short birdie putt to capture the Division 4 championship.
Steve Pickens took third place with an 85 (+15), while Richard McCoy finished fourth at 87.
Mietzner’s playoff victory was only part of an outstanding day for Cole, as he also captured the Mid-Am Net championship.
DIVISION 5
Division 5 produced another one-stroke battle for the championship.
Michael Elder earned the Division 5 trophy with a round of 87 (+17). Elder’s 45 on the front and 42 on the back were enough to hold off Cody Canzona, who finished only one stroke behind with an 88 (+18).
Anthony Mercadante finished third with a score of 90 (+20).
Elder would add even more winnings before the day was finished.
MID-AM NET
Cole Mietzner completed his outstanding day by adding the Mid-Am Net Championship to his Division 4 victory.
Mietzner posted matching net-nine scores of 33 for an excellent Net 66 (-4).
Cody Canzona made it a close race with a Net 67 (-3) to finish second, while Division 3 champion Skylar Mitchell finished third at Net 70 (Even).
SENIOR NET
The Senior Net competition was another close contest.
Mike Foxhoven shot a terrific back-nine Net 32 to finish with a Net 68 (-2) and captured the Senior Net championship.
Scott Rowley finished only one stroke behind at Net 69 (-1), while Vern Rubick took third with a Net 71 (+1).
Foxhoven’s Senior Net victory capped a strong day that also included his third-place finish in Division 3.
CLOSEST TO THE PIN
There was certainly no measuring tape required on Hole #4!
CTP #4 — Trevor Glen — HOLE IN ONE!
Trevor’s 149-yard ace with his 50-degree wedge made him the automatic Closest-to-the-Pin winner on the fourth hole. Noone else in the field could match Trevor’s shot.
On Hole #10, Michael Elder knocked his tee shot to 6 feet, 4 inches to capture the second CTP contest of the day.
Congratulations to both players!
FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE
Apparently one major highlight was not enough for Trevor Glen on Saturday.
After recording the first Hole in One of his career earlier in the day, Trevor Glen was also drawn as the winner of the Folds of Honor 50/50 Raffle!
Trevor took home $180, while another $180 was donated to Folds of Honor.
Thank you once again to everyone who participated and continues to support Folds of Honor.
And congratulations again to Trevor on a Willis Case tournament day he certainly will never forget!
NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
The 2026 Denver APT season now moves into its final stretch.
Next up is The Pine Classic at Pinehurst Country Club on Thursday, August 27, followed by the Denver APT Local Finals at Fox Hollow on Sunday, September 13.
The Fox Hollow Finals will bring together the season-long battles for Division honors and Player of the Year, making every point earned during Saturday’s Elevated Event at Willis Case even more important.
