Players Club @ Woodland Trails
The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour made its way to The Players Club @ Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana, for another exciting Elevated Event, and with Double Points and a Double Prize Pool on the line, the competition was fierce from the opening tee shot to the final putt.
The weather couldn’t have been much better for tournament golf. A comfortable temperature and a slight breeze created near-perfect conditions for the APT field. The Players Club provided an excellent test, with its 18-hole, par-72 layout featuring rolling fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and water hazards that demand accuracy and smart shot-making.
Division 1 — Sutley Strengthens His Hold on Player of the Year
The Player of the Year points leader, Barney Sutley, added another trophy to an already impressive season, firing a 1-over-par 73 to claim the Division 1 championship.
With Double Points up for grabs, the victory couldn’t have come at a better time. Sutley heads into the Goddard Strategies Local Finals with a commanding lead in the Player of the Year race and plenty of momentum heading into the final event of the season.
Division 2 — Steiner Wins a Two-Hole Thriller
Division 2 provided one of the day’s most exciting finishes.
Pete Steiner and Cole Thomas both finished regulation at 8-over-par 80, forcing a playoff to determine the champion.
Both players stepped up on the first playoff hole and recorded par, sending the battle to a second playoff hole. On the second extra hole, Steiner once again delivered, making par to secure the championship while Thomas recorded a bogey.
Nathan Fieldhouse finished third with an 84, while Brian Stanley rounded out the top four with an 86.
Division 3 — Goddard Leads the Way
John Goddard put together an outstanding round of 7-over-par 79 to capture the Division 3 title.
Goddard’s steady play was enough to separate him from the field and earn another APT trophy.
Representing the Columbus Chapter, Zach Walker made the trip to Woodland Trails and finished runner-up with a 13-over-par 85. Rex Meyer claimed third at 14-over-par 86.
Division 4 — Pfeifer Wins a Back-and-Forth Battle
Division 4 was a battle from start to finish as John Pfeifer, Jason Walling, and Tim Jenkins of the Columbus Chapter traded the lead throughout the round.
When the final scores were posted, it was Pfeifer who stood on top.
Pfeifer fired an impressive 7-over-par 79 to claim the Division 4 championship. Jason Walling finished just one stroke back at 80, while Jenkins completed the podium with an 81.
Division 5 — Buenconsejo Claims His First APT Victory
Division 5 certainly didn’t disappoint as Gary Buenconsejo picked up his first win on Tour, posting an 18-over-par 90.
Buenconsejo held off a pair of challengers as Ray Albensi and Ryan “Fish” Fish tied for second at 93.
A first APT trophy is always special, and Buenconsejo’s victory made for one of the day’s best stories.
Mid-Am Net — Walling Continues His Winning Ways
Jason Walling picked up another victory in the Mid-Am Net competition, putting together an outstanding 6-under-par 66.
Zach Walker finished second at even-par 72, while Kyle Kammer finished third at 1-over-par 73.
Senior Net — Pfeifer Gets the Double Dip
The Senior Net competition produced another impressive performance as John Pfeifer completed the Double Dip, following his Division 4 victory with a phenomenal 8-under-par 64.
John Goddard also posted an incredible round, finishing second at 4-under-par 68.
Player of the Year points leader Barney Sutley rounded out the top three at 1-over-par 73.
Next Stop: The Local Finals
The Players Club @ Woodland Trails once again delivered a fantastic setting for Indianapolis APT tournament golf, and the Elevated Event lived up to its billing with Double Points, Double Prize Pool, playoff drama, first-time champions, and some incredible rounds of golf.
But now, the attention turns to the biggest event on the calendar.
The Goddard Strategies Local Finals are coming up next weekend, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Two days of APT golf will determine the Local Finals Champions and help crown the Indianapolis Players of the Year.
The Player of the Year race has been building all season, and now it all comes down to one final weekend.
The trophies are ready. The points are on the line. The season is coming to a finish.
