Amateur Players Tour of Florida – Southwest Tournament Recap 

Aileron Golf Club – August 9, 2026 

The week prior to our event provided a lot of rain for the course.  Despite the wet week, the course drained very well, and the course was in very good condition for the event!  Our day started off sunny and hot, but we experienced a rain shower on the back nine that was short-lived. Everyone finished without any delays.  Highlights of the day included: 

• Division 1: This was our largest division of the week, with several guests and new players!  The front nine saw Daren Green jump out to the lead, firing an impressive -1 (35)!  He held a one stroke lead over Marc Young (Houston chapter), and two over D1 points leader, Gage Basiletti.  On the back, Young would match his even par front with the same score on the back and an even par day overall!  However, Basiletti would catch fire on the back posting a -3 (33), taking the win with an impressive -2 (70), and his sixth win of the season, increasing his lead in the local D1 race! 

• Division 2: This one was tight and had several players competing for the lead up to the very last hole!  On the front nine, Danny Magruder (2^nd place in D2 points) carded a -1 (35) and jumped out to a 3-shot lead over Lon Lugten, and 4 over Nick Westbrook.  Lugten lead by one coming down the stretch, but an untimely double on the last hole, coupled with a Westbrook par gave Westbrook the win (his sixth in 8 starts) and increased his lead in the points race.  Special note was an excellent second shot by newcomer, Joe Schwartz on the 18^th hole for a hole-out eagle, and of course, a super skin! 

• Division 3: This division went from the biggest one last week, to the smallest one this week!  The field was small, but it had points leader, Josh Acevedo, Misty Creek winner, Marcus Clifford, and third place points getter, John Moore!  On the front, Dylan Rich took a one-shot lead over Acevedo, 3 over Clifford, and 4 over Moore.  Rich was cruising along on the back when he hit a rough patch and tripled the last two holes while Moore turned things around and they tied.  Unfortunately, Moore had left, so Rich won the playoff by default, and captured his first APT win ever.   

• Division 4: With D4 points leader, Clay Metzger sitting out, it opened the door for Mike Bushee to gain some ground!   On the front, Greg Carr would post a +2 (38) and take a two-stroke lead over Jay Shockey, three over Bushee, and four over Manny Collins.  On the back, this one came down to Bushee and Carr.  Bushee would better Carr by one on the back, but he fell a couple short as Carr posted an impressive 79 for his first local chapter win of 2026.   

• Division 5: Rick Gill, playing his home course, jumped out to a three-shot lead over Greg Gastfield, and four over Mike Abbott and Quinton Allen.  Gill stumbled a bit on the back, and Gastfield improved by one over his front nine and posted a 93.  Jay Powell would find his game on the back, carding a +5 (41) and tying Gastfield at 93.  Mike Abbott also figured something out on the back as he carded a +4 (40) on the back for an 88 and an impressive win, his second of the season.  This division points race very tight, and is going to come down to who plays the best in the finals!   

• Mid-Am Net: Here we had 8 of the 12 eligible players opt into the game this week, including the points leader, Jeromy Sigler and second place, Gage Basiletti.  There were some good scores here, but Basiletti’s -2 (70 was enough to get him the win by 2 over third place points person, Nick Westbrookwho took second.  Both will gain ground on Sigler as this race tightens up heading down the stretch! 

• Senior Net: 9 out of the 15 eligible players played this week, with three players, Mike Bushee, Daren Green, and Danny Magruder all posting -3 (33) on the front with Manny Collins just 1 back of them!  On the back, Mike Abbott would storm back with a -5 (31) to take second place, while Bushee would finish the day at -7 (65) for his 4^th win of the season.  This win will close the gap between Bushee and Greg Gastfield, the current points leader!
