Tournament Champions
Saturday the Wichita APT headed out to Willowbend Golf Club for “The Willowbend Cup” and we had some tight matches being played in almost all divisions!
First, I must say THANK YOU to Jessica, Jacob and their team at Willowbend. The golf club had 3″ of rain the day prior of the event and they did a great job getting the tour a product to play on. We appreciate your hard work on the course and did not go unnoticed!
D1 had two of the top3 points leaders in the field today. Kipp Jones and Zach Eck were trying to get some late season points to try and catch Kelly Sellers! Peyton Austin and Bryan Neuhaus had other thoughts! Peyton scoring 5 birdies and Bryan had 4 birdies Saturday helping them place 1st and 2nd in D1 respectively. Peyton went 33/36 – 69 (-3) on the day and almost gave it up with a bogey on 18. Bryan scored an impressive 35/35 – 70 (-2) on the day.
D2 has the tightest race of the GooD LiFE Golf Lab Player of the Year and had leaders Ryan Walton, Jason Dodd and Joshua Dockery in the field and they showed why they are a top the standings for that Player of the Year. Ryan went 40/37 – 77 (+5) with a couple birdies on the day. It was enough to hold on to the win, beating Jason Dodd and Will Grimmett who both shot 80’s (+8) today.
D3 may have had the most exciting competition of the day!! POY Race leader Braydon Lund trying to extend is lead in points was in the field today. We also had Tracy Hanback, Ricky Muniz, Matt Jensen all in the field as well! Coming down the stretch Rodney Michael and Matt Jensen were neck and neck. Both had played stellar front nines and the back 9s were different stories. Matt shot par on 17 to tie the round leader Rodney going into 18. Rodney pulled out the win with a 82 (+10)! Matt finished with an 83 (+11), SlicedGolf – Chris Santoya finished 84 (+12) along with Dylan Herrman and Braydon Lund.
D4 had newcomer, Danny Estrada, to the division at a +3 thru the front 9!! With the heat rising and a tough back 9, Jeff Rader, Scott Miller and Rex Robinson all tried to capitalize! Jeff Rader went 42 and then 43 on the back and was able to hold off Scott and Rex for the Division win!
D5 had Erik Hopper have a round he won’t ever forget. His words “BEST round of his LIFE” and shot a 39 on the FRONT with 3 bogeys. Again, as the heat turned up we saw many players to day struggle on the back. Erik was able to finish strong and collect another win on the season shooting a final 85 (+13). After the round, he talked about a couple practice rounds showed him a lot about the course. As a former coach, built his game plan, stuck to it and was successful.
