Amateur Players Tour of Florida – Southwest Tournament Recap
Bobby Jones Golf Club – April 25, 2026
Saturday, April 25, 2026, was the kickoff event for the Southwest Florida Chapter’s 2026 season! It was a warm sunny afternoon and our largest event to date with 51 players! Everyone was excited to get the season started, and we had 12 new players! While the temperatures were warm, there was a decent breeze to cool things off and increase the challenge. Highlights of the day included:
- Division 1: This group was unusually large with 12 players playing in our top division! After the front nine, reigning Reunion Champion, Gage Basiletti shot -1 and jumped out to a 1-shot lead over Jake Yoder, and 2 over Brandon Collier, Erik Harpsoe, and Daren Green. The back nine saw Basiletti allow Collier, Yoder, and Harpsoe get back into it. Harpsoe had a chance to win it on 18, but a costly 3-putt put him in a 3-way tie for first and into a playoff with Yoder and Collier. In the playoff, Collier bogied the first hole, and Harpsoe would bogey the second hole, allowing Jake Yoder to take the win in his first APT event with consecutive pars!
- Division 2: In D2, Nick Westbrook and Chris Scott both carded +2 38s on the front and took a 1-shot lead over Frank Gomes and Trent Bell. Westbrook kept it going on the back with an even par 35, and a 2-shot victory over Scott, and Aystin Martinez, who fired a +2 37 on the back to tie with Scott for second. a
- Division 3: The next group, D3, had Rick Kaczmarczyk card a strong +3 39 on the front for a 2-shot lead over Paul DiCaprio, Josh Acevedo, and Tommy DeMartini. The back would be a different story, as DiCaprio would fire a sizzling +2 37 on the back to card a 78 and a 3-shot victory over Josh Acevedo.
- Division 4: D4 was very competitive with all 8 players within 3 shots of the lead after the front nine! John Moore and Dave Davis led the group with +7 43. On the back, Moore would find his stride and carded a +3 38 for a 3-shot win over Clay Metzger, who finished second.
- Division 5: In Division 5, Rick Gill led after the front with a +7 43. Mike Bushee was just 1 shot behind, and Rusty Lingenfelter lurked just 4 shots back. On the back nine, Bushee would stay more consistent and surge ahead, taking home the win by 2 over Gill and Lingenfelter.
- Mid-Am Net: We only had 8 players in our initial Mid-Am event, but the scores were VERY strong! On the front nine, Chris Scott and Josh Acevedo took the lead by 1 over Nick Westbrook and Jeromy Sigler! Westbrook would surge into the lead on the back with an incredible -3 32 to take a 1-shot win over Josh Acevedo!
- Senior Net: This one was even more exciting! We had 21 players in this event, and we had almost half the field at even of BETTER after the front nine! In the end, it came down to a scorecard playoff to determine the winner between John Moore and Rusty Lingenfelter. It was so close, but in the end, Moore shot a fantastic -3 32 on the back to Lingenfelter’s equally impressive -2 33 and he got the 1-shot victory!
A huge thank you goes out to John Ellis and Lana Wazny and the entire staff at Bobby Jones for being such excellent hosts of our opening day tournament.
Our next event is at Herons Glen Golf & Country Club in North Fort Myers, and it will be on Sunday, May 3. Remember, the more players we get, the bigger the payouts! Sign up now for your spot to play! Registration closes on Tuesday, April 28!
