    Thrilling Battle at Chariot Run

The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour a trip to one of Indiana’s premier golf destinations, Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Indiana, where players were greeted with a golf course that demanded every shot they had. Consistently ranked among the top public courses in the state, Chariot Run’s American links-style layout that features rolling fairways, pristine bentgrass greens, sparkling lakes, and strategically placed bunkers that challenge golfers of every skill level.

The battle for championship honors began before the first tee shot. Nearly six inches of rain soaked the property the day before the event, forcing course modifications and leaving competitors with soft, soggy conditions throughout the round. While the storms had moved on by tournament morning, players still had to contend with partly cloudy skies, scorching temperatures, and oppressive humidity that made every hole a test of endurance.

    Division 1

The marquee matchup lived up to the hype as reigning Player of the Year Blake Claycomb squared off against current Player of the Year points leader Barney Sutley. The two heavyweights traded punches throughout the day, with neither player giving an inch. In the end, Claycomb delivered a clutch performance, firing an impressive 1-over-par 74 to edge Sutley by a single stroke after Sutley posted 75. The victory tightens the Player of the Year race as the season heads into its summer stretch.

    Division 2

The drama continued as Nathan Fieldhouse and Josh Brooks couldn’t be separated after 18 holes, each carding 7-over-par 80. The pair matched pars on the opening playoff hole before returning to the tee for another trip around. On the second playoff hole, a par five, Fieldhouse calmly made par while Brooks recorded a six, giving Fieldhouse his first Indianapolis APT victory.

Just two shots behind the leaders, Tim Steinhauer, Cole Thomas, and Jason Graf all shared third place with rounds of 82.

    Division 3

Traveling north from the Nashville Chapter proved worthwhile for Will Houston, who claimed the Division 3 title with a solid 7-over-par 80. Houston stayed steady throughout the day to hold off strong challenges from John Goddard and Matt Love, who each finished three strokes back with rounds of 83.

    Division 4

Ryan Gibson returned to the winner’s circle with an outstanding 9-over-par 82, navigating the difficult conditions better than the field. Shannon Sageser claimed runner-up honors with an 87, while Jason Walling finished third after posting 94.

    Division 5

The Bluegrass State was well represented as Kentucky’s Mike Osbourn captured the Division 5 championship with a round of 93. Ryan Fish finished second at 95, while Ray Albensi rounded out the podium with a 96.

    Senior Net

The Senior Net division featured another exciting battle as Shannon Sageser turned in an outstanding 2-under-par net 71 to earn the victory. John Goddard was right behind with a 1-under-par 72, while Barney Sutley completed the top three with a 74.

    Mid-Am Net

Ryan Gibson completed the “double-dip,” adding the Mid-Am Net title to his Division 4 championship. Gibson’s excellent 4-under-par net 69 led the field, while Will Houston continued his strong day by finishing second with a 71. Josh Brooks rounded out the top three after posting a 74.

Despite soggy fairways, modified course conditions, relentless heat, and stifling humidity, the competitors proved once again that great golf rises above challenging circumstances. Chariot Run delivered another memorable championship as players battled both the golf course and the elements from start to finish.

The Indianapolis Amateur Players Tour now turns its attention to another fan favorite as the tour heads to Purgatory Golf Club on July 19, where another exciting chapter in the Player of the Year race awaits.
